27/12/25 Last Gasp Maggs Busk - Worcester

Hi all, I think it's a real strength of our club that a gig can be posted with barely a week's notice... a gig just a couple of days after Christmas Day... and for there to be such a magnificent response.  So, many, many thanks to everyone who came along for the Last Gasp Busk for Maggs in Bell Square today.
We kicked off on time, at 10:30, and worked our way through the Christmas-flavoured busk set, with just a 15-minute pause, finishing - again, on time - at 3:00.  Wuccies came when they could, merged in seamlessly and then stayed as long as they could, and yet I believe there were always at least 12 playing and singing - and playing and singing very well. We were even joined by a ukularaoke (a cross between ukulele and karaoke) act: Jane from Poole, Dorset, who was in Worcester visiting her mother, Ada, who is 93.  Jane, who plays with a U3A group in Poole, said she was impressed with the range of songs we did, and really enjoyed joining in.  She said that the next time she comes to visit her mother, she'll make sure it's on a Monday, so she can come to WUC in the evening!
We had all the usual exquisite toddler dancing, as well as some grown-up dance that would have graced any episode of Strictly Come Dancing from a mystery Wuccy and a mystery member of the audience!  I'm hoping there's some video footage out there somewhere, so we can do the big reveal!  I, for one, would have given all the dancers, whatever their age,  a perfect 10!  Overall, then, I thought it was a very, very enjoyable - if chilly - gig.

Now for the maths! Although there weren't quite as many people in Worcester as we hoped there might have been, we still managed to collect the very creditable sum of £345.00 (exactly! Honestly! No rounding up!) which is now in the Club's bank, along with the £100.00 gig fee and £69.58 collection from last Monday's gig at School House Retirement Home.  So, a late addition of £514.58 to the Maggs fund!  Result!

Huge thanks again to everyone who played ukes of all sizes, sang, danced and/or rattled buckets today and who shared the leading (you know who you are, John Hi and Peter G).  What a lovely way to see out both 2025 and our year-long support for Maggs.  Thanks to Rosemary and Peter G for the photos.  I hope we've got everyone in!

Cheers

Trevor

22/12/25 School Gardens, Stourport

Hi Everyone, A big thank you to all the players in the photo below who helped make a show that entertained the happy and enthusiastic audience in Stourport on Tuesday. The organiser was so pleased she made our £75 fee up to £100 and pinched our bucket to collect a further £69.58. All for MAGGS of course.
I am sure the following applies to all gigging WUCCIES. It came from Brenda Rass who volunteers at St Paul's in Worcester, the place we first met Stan! She has seen us many times.

Dear John
Sending Christmas blessings to you and all the Ukulele band.Thank you for all you do bringing joy to those you entertain. May 2026 bring you much peace, health and happiness.

Nice to receive, and on that note Jean and I wish Wuccies all a very Happy Christmas and New Year.

Regards John

20/12/25 Malvern Farmer's Market

Hi Everyone, I notice that these days golfers and tennis players at the top level regularly use 'super good' to describe an excellent result. So, with apologies, and whether you are the grammar or 'americanisms' police, the group this morning did 'super good'. Thank you to everyone in the picture, you all contributed to the fun we had, and to  Rob (Karen's husband), who took it but also was our super bucketeer helping to raise (drum roll)....
£150.86 for MAGGS.

Regards, John

19/12/25 Worcester Wheels

Hi all, On Friday 19th December, we were asked along to provide some entertainment at Worcester Wheels’ Christmas party, held at the Royal British Legion Club, Claines.  It was an invitation that we were very happy to accept.
We played  our mix of Christmassy and not so Christmassy songs for an hour and fifteen minutes, as they munched their way through their lunch - whilst still finding the time to join in and/or to get up and dance.  We got lots of nice feedback at the end, and a gig fee of £75.00 will reach us shortly.  Although we’d been asked not to take a charity bucket, one of the guests gave me £3.10 to add to our charity collection.
Many thanks to the 13 Wuccies for their effort, enthusiasm and talent, and to Nick for co-leading. Cheers Trevor

17/12/25 Viscount Cobham Court Retirement Home Malvern

Hi all, On Wednesday 17th December, a group of 8 Wuccies went to play at Viscount Cobham Court, a retirement home in Malvern.  This was our second visit to VCC, if I remember correctly.  We played two sets of mostly Christmas songs, with a break in between for tea, mince pies, sausage rolls and a chat with the residents.  There was lots of joining in with the singing: one of the benefits of the Christmas repertoire is that so many people know the words to so many of the songs!  The percussion section was something special, though!  We may have to take them along with us when we finally get our invitation to play the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury!
Although we didn't take a charity bucket with us, the organiser,  Jean, went round the audience with a basket when we'd finished, so that a further £41.20 was added to the gig fee of £75.00.  A cracking result from a cracking little gig!
Many thanks to all at VCC for asking us along and for making us so welcome,  and huge thanks to the WUC members for their great playing and singing.
Cheers
Trevor

16/12/25 St Stephen's Care Home Worcester

Hi all,  Many thanks to the 8 Wuccies who visited St Stephen's Care Home, Worcester, on Tuesday 16th December to help the residents celebrate the festive season.  This was our second visit to St Stephen's and we knew we were in for a fun gig... which it certainly proved to be!  There was lots of joining in, both in song and with percussion, and I think a good time was had by all.  The gig fee of £75 will soon be making its way into our coffers!
(We have a third gig booked at St Stephen's in late January next year, to celebrate Burns Night.  I'd better ask Santa to bring me something tartan to wear!)
Cheers
Trevor

15/12/25 Clarence Park Malvern

I've just returned from a very enjoyable gig at Clarence Park Malvern. We had a really warm and engaged audience who sang along to a mixture of Christmas and non-Christmas numbers.
So, thanks to the band who played so well and thanks to the splendid audience. A real team effort!  We were given a £65 gig fee and the collection in the Maggs bucket was £79.33, giving a total of £144.33 for Maggs.  Thanks again to everyone, Allan.

12/12/25 Handmade in Hallow

We had an interesting and entertaining  gig in Hallow this afternoon. We played to an audience of 13 max. I speculate that some were away sunbathing this afternoon and didn't want to hear about Frosty and how the weather outside was frightful because it wasn't. But it was the keenies who did turn up and they joined in with gusto and clearly enjoyed themselves. Half way through the gig some taxis arrived and removed half the audience, leaving us with 6. The remaining 6 joined in with super gusto and we were able to give them our fullest attention.

Our efforts for this select audience were rewarded by a £75 gig fee plus £48.38p in the collection bucket, total £123.38p for Maggs.

So thanks to the band who sang and played so well. Your efforts were richly rewarded. Allan.

11/12/25 Morrisons Malvern

Our second gig for Morrisons celebrating the festive season, and by now we're so into our Christmas fusion songlist that we can practically do it blindfold (not that I'm suggesting that we did).  Once again we wooed the customers ....   and persuaded them to part with £102.29  plus one used Duracell (button) battery masquerading as a coin of the realm (is that a first?)..

Whilst I dashed home through rush hour traffic to grab the MAGGS buckets and banners that I'd forgotten to pack .. the band pulled together and made a timely start with Nick well and truly at the helm ..  big shout-out for his leading, shaking, rattling and rolling all at the same time with one hand encased in a bandage ...  AWESOME.

Thanks to all players..  the teamwork was pure WUCCY

9/12/25 Kingfisher Court Retirement Home, Droitwich

Hi Everyone
We played on Tuesday evening for the wonderful folk at the Kingfisher Court Retirement Home in Droitwich. Been there a few times now and always enjoyable. We played a mix of Christmas and new classics which went down very well with the percussion wielding audience! A singing competition, with Jean and Shell leading, was noisily enjoyed. I could go on but the meaningful thoughts came from our booker Penny who sent the following:-

Another wonderful evening with Worcester Ukulele Club. They arrive full of enthusiasm which never falters. They sing, they dance, they play and they even hand-jive and they get the whole audience joining in. And they do it all for charity. Well done Wuccies. A great time was had by all. Thank you so much xxx

Oh, and they gave us a £150 fee for MAGGS as well. A nice reward for the splendid efforts of an excellent group of players pictured below.

Merry Christmas one and all!

Regards John

9/12/25 Maggs Sing-along

Hi all, Many thanks to the dozen Wuccies who went to play at the Maggs Day Centre in Deansway, this morning.  The weather wasn't exactly the nicest it's ever been - courtesy of Bram - and there were quite a few service-users in the centre, along with members of staff and volunteers.  We sang mostly Christmas-based songs, including Everyday (well, it is by Buddy HOLLY!) and Bring Me Sunshine (because no Christmas was ever complete with the Eric and Ernie Special!). There was some joining in, both vocal and percussive, and everyone seemed to enjoy the session.  The highlight was letting them all know that we have already collected £11,950 for them.  This amount has grown since Monday, thanks to a further contribution of a £40.00 gig fee from Malvern Ukulele Club. All in all, a good way to spend an hour or so on a cold, wet Tuesday in Worcester!
Cheers Trevor.

7/12/25 The Fold Christmas Market

Hi all, Well, the weather outside was frightful… or at least a bit dismal, but we were under cover in a cosy little corner, so, as far as we were concerned… let it snow!  The dour damp day didn’t keep the customers, away, however, and we had a good response to our two 45-minute sets. There was some truly delightful toddler-dancing, and even one or two of the mums and dads pulled a nifty move or two. We even made room for a new band member at one stage: none other than Santa himself!  And he really, truly and honestly could play the ukulele!

One Wuccy was probably a little less unconcerned by the climatic conditions than the rest of us:  Nick - still unable to play after his finger op earlier in the week - braved the elements to mingle with the throng and to shake a bucket and rattle a tambourine… or was it the other way round.  Whatever, he evidently did a sterling job, as the bucket ultimately yielded the magnificent sum of £141.93… plus €0.20. A great result!

Many many thanks, as ever, to the 12 Wuccies for coming along to support the gig and for helping to make it as enjoyable and as successful as it was.

6/12/25 Christmas Fair Gig no. 2

Hi all, Our second - and, sadly, last - appearance at the Victorian Christmas Fair was today, Saturday 6th December. We were in Bell Square, just in front of what I believe is Santa's Grotto.  Santa wasn't at home, though!  He was probably busily at work, at this time of year!

We sang all but one of the twenty songs on our list, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves in the process!  There was loads of audience participation - singing along, clapping hands, dancing, and arm-waving.  Many waved their arms, firstly in the direction of their purses, pockets and wallets, and then in the direction of our buckets, so effectively deployed by Nick W and Karen (wife of Wuccy Tim A).  Between them, they did a cracking job, collecting an impressive £154.94.  A great result.

Many thanks to each and every Wuccy who came along and who played and sang so well.  Many thanks too, to Nick and Karen for brilliant bucketeering, and thanks also to Karen for the photos.

Cheers, Trevor

5/12/25 Sacred Heart Social Gig, Droitwich

Hi all, Despite all the traffic snarl-ups because of broken-down vehicles on the M5 and on the London Road, not to mention the extra cars and coaches brought into town by the Victorian Christmas Fair, 12 Wuccies battled their way to the Sacred Heart Church, Droitwich Spa this evening to play at a parishioners’ social event. We had been asked to play a first half-hour set of non-Christmassy songs, followed by a second set - with sing-along sheets for the audience - this time containing some festive fayre! We were more than happy to oblige!.  I think it’s fair to say that we played and sang with great energy and enthusiasm, and the audience did likewise.  I thought the two highlights were the ripping renditions of “Those Were The Days” and “This Little Light Of Mine”.  Another highlight was towards the end, when a young lad (of 6 or 7?), still in his School uniform and being by far the smartest-looking person in the room because of it, went round the tables with our Maggs charity bucket.  He collected a really creditable sum of £61.25.  The final highlight was after I had arrived home. I opened the envelope with the gig fee cheque in it, to discover that they had given us £50 over and above the £100 gig fee we had originally agreed on. So, a really fun night of doing what we love doing, great audience participation and a further £211.25 for Maggs!  What’s not to like?
Many thanks to Father George and the worshippers of Sacred Heart for inviting us along and for making us so welcome and, of course for their generosity, and huge, huge thanks to the Wuccies who made the evening so successful and enjoyable!
Cheers Trevor

4/12/25 Christmas Fair Gig no. 1

Hi all, Well, we had the unenviable job of following a cracking performance by a group of school children from Nunnery Wood High School on the Main Stage in Cathedral Square today.  What’s that about never working with children or animals?  However, nothing ventured, nothing gained, so we set about the task of entertaining the good folk in Worcester for 45 minute with energy and enthusiasm… and I think it’s fair to say that we nailed it! We sang all 15 songs on our list in our allotted 45 minutes, and we drew quite a crowd. Nick, fresh from an operation on his left hand yesterday, rattled a bucket, as did Tom (son of Wuccy Jo B), and they both played a blinder, collecting the impressive total of £115.98. Not at all shabby for 45 minutes on a relatively quiet Thursday afternoon.  Many thanks to Nick and Tom, and, of course, to the 19 Wuccies who played and sang so well.  We done good!
Cheers Trevor

4/12/25 Noble House

Hi all. Many thanks to the band who sang and played nobly in the noble surroundings of Noble House today. There was a definite whiff of Christmas in the air as we played in front of the Christmas tree (see pic.).  Unlike the aristocratic nobility who may claim to be broke, the audience (who sang and percussed with gusto), was very generous, depositing  £72.50 in the Maggs bucket. With the gig fee of £75, the total was £147.50. So thanks again to the band and thank you Noble House.

2/12/25 Malvern Morrisons

Hi, A big thank you to all the Wuccies who turned up to play at Morrisons in Malvern today. It wasn’t the warmth and bright lights of the supermarket I promised but the rather chilly foyer! Many apologies!  But we played and sang with gusto to a constantly moving audience. Thanks to the people of Malvern what appeared to be a quiet Tuesday morning resulted with £143.05 in the buckets for Maggs….. amazing! You just never can tell!
Well done to everyone. Thanks again, Nick
Wow what an unexpected result.  I actually thought we'd be lucky to get 20quid.   Incredible but SO welcome.  Great  counting in , Nick.
Spot-on tempo,  excellent bass-leadership thanks to Mark .

22/11/25 Malvern Christmas Arts Market

Hi all,
Well, it was neither the warmest nor the driest of days on Saturday 22nd November, when  13 plucky Wuccies rolled up in the grounds of Malvern Priory for the annual Christmas Arts Market.  It’s fair to say that we were a touch alarmed when we arrived and were shown our performance area - totally open to the elements! However, our fears were soon allayed when the Market team sprang into action and erected a rather splendid gazebo over us. Perfect!
We kicked off the first set when the Priory bells, with which we couldn’t really compete, had finished marking the 10th hour. We sang a mix of Christmassy and non-Christmassy songs. (The first song was obviously a Christmas song, as it was by Buddy Holly).  We took advantage of a short break half-way through to warm chilly fingers by wrapping them around mugs of hot coffee! Suitably refreshed,  we resumed the music  on a similar theme  in the second set, which saw us through fron 11:15 to midday..
Although we had suspected that the inclement weather might affect the numbers attending the Market, they obviously breed them tough and resilient in and around Malvern, and there was a steady stream of market-goers walking by, many of whom stopped a while to listen, sing along, have a little dance and - more importantly - put their hands in their pockets and their cash in the buckets.  There was the very creditable sum of £82.07. A great result for a grey day!
Many thanks to the organisers of the Market for inviting us along to play, and - as ever -  - huge thanks to the 13 Wuccies who sang and played so well, and who looked the part in their Christmas jumpers and/or Santa hats.

John & Trevor

14/11/25 Children In Need

It is my proud job now, to thank all of you Wuccies, who braved the "Severe Weather Warning" to come out & play for Children-in-Need at Crowngate/Friary Walk today - you are all heros & the Worcester Public managed to donate a brilliant £847.69p, on a slow day, thanks to the
above mentioned weather! I think we would have given up, if we had had to play outside Debenhams!

Thanks especially to Rosemary & Anne, who, as ever, gave it their all, with constant smiles, to make the event brilliant. Thanks also to Media Stars Trevor & Colin - just seen our 20 seconds
on Midlands Today - does anyone in the morning session not now know the first verse of Achy Breaky Heart?

Great to see the Mayor there, playing along - thanks Bev.

I will be sending a note to Mike Lloyd at the centre for suggesting the location - maybe we can use it again?

Well done all of you - £847.69p

Regards, John B (Sloop)
Well done Wuccies a fantastic amount considering the weather conditions! That new venue looked excellent.
Well done also to the Stars of Midlands Today.... Rob P
Wow ... John Sloop B  et al ....
What a result....
WUC triumphs again at all odds...

A million congratulations to EVERYONE who played or danced their way through to that incredible bucketful..
Luckily, we didn't have to send a lifeboat in to get you out of Worcester

Be proud,   be VERY proud  ...   Back slaps all round.... Virginia
Well done to all Wuccies who played and collected a magnificent total £847.69 yesterday!!! Wow!
We didn't see the clip of WUCs performance on "Midlands Today"....probably because we live int North and have "Look North West"!
Obviously, there are no local Uke groups up here that can perform & compare with WUC!!
Great achievement - well done
Tony & Jane R

06/11/25 St Joseph's RC Church

Hi all,
What a great time we had playing for - or should that be with - the members of the St Joseph’s RC Church Thursday Group in Malvern this afternoon.  We have played this venue many times in the past, since former Wuccie Lynn S arranged our first gig there, and we’ve always enjoyed doing so. Today was no exception!
Although the Thursday Group is small, and the audience were few in number, they sang, chair-danced and “percussed” along most enthusiastically with our hour-long set of 18 songs.
After the music came the tea and yummy cakes and the chance of a good chin-wag with the group members.
There was no fee for this gig, but the bucket went round and amassed the amazing amount of £66.55.  Many, many thanks to the lovely people of the Thursday Group, and huge thanks to the 9 wonderful Wuccies who joined me there! It was a super and successful way to spend a Thursday afternoon!
Cheers Trevor

30/10/25 Perdiswell Two in One Club

Hi Everyone

I had the privilege of leading a baker’s dozen of Wuccies at today’s two in one club. Lots of lovely playing and singing and interaction with our audience.

It’s lovely to see the young people enjoying our singing and joining in with singing, clapping, dancing and rattling of percussion. They like high tempo music (including Lady Gaga) but I managed to sneak in a couple of slightly slower ones so that we could take a breather.

We received a £100 gig fee cheque.

Well done everyone, Colin

23/10/25 Perdiswell Mature Club

Hi Everyone, A new galaxy was formed today. It is called WUC@PerdyMature. As you would expect it is full of stars and they really came out and shone. Well done every one of you, you were a credit to WUC today, and the crowd responded accordingly. Big thank you to Allan for venturing far from the west and arriving in wellingtons! Thanks to the audience with their percussion that helped John Hi keep us motoring along. I know these reports usually have hyperbole overload so that's it! £62.23 in the collection and £50 fee mean another good return for MAGGS. Thanks to Steve C and Bev's chap John for a photo each, which capture the stars very well!

Regards, John

12/10/25 Farmer's Market, Talbot Inn, Knightwick

Hi all,
Many thanks to the happy group of Wuccies who went to the Talbot Inn at Knightwick this morning to play at the Farmers’ Market. We’ve played there many times before, and I have always found it to be a lovely occasion in a lovely location.  In tha past, we have played at the road end of the market. However, today we were at the other end, come up under a nice white gazebo. I’m not sure whether this move indicated a promotion or a demotion, but it was nice, cosy site, which gave us very good exposure to the audience.

We played two sets of around 45 minutes each and the market-goers and stallholders seemed to enjoy what we were doing. I thought we sounded very good, with John Hi on bass, 16 Wuccies on ukes of all sizes, and some lovely spontaneous harmonies, and what I believe may have been a début performance on train whistle from Helen D! What a brilliant band!

Oops! I left out one important group member!  How could I forget Rosemary’s virtuoso performance on bucket?  She played a blinder, collecting £89.11, which, when added to the gig fee of £75.00 means an addition of £164.11 to the Maggs fund. RESULT!!!

Many thanks to every Wuccy who added to the success and enjoyment of the gig; many thanks to the market-goers and smallholders for their generosity; and many thanks to the organisers of the Farmers’ Market for inviting us along to play… and for the free bacon butties and samosas at the end of the session.

Cheers, Trevor
Hi, Fabulously enjoyable gig at the Talbot today on a seasonal Autumn Day! Just a thanks from me on behalf of Maggs for your continued efforts and support, Rosemary x

08/10/25 St Paul's Church, Friendship and Lunch Club

Hi Everyone

I am writing to thank the happy, smiley Wuccies who went to St Paul's yesterday. It was an excellent representation of WUC at its best. Lots of energy and a willingness to tackle anything including an enlarged Teddy Bear! There was dancing, singing and enthusiastic percussion playing. What more can you want? Oh yes, Stan! This long time friend of WUC was there to keep an eye on things and still smiling.  Just got this from the organiser at St Pauls:

"Morning John, many thanks for yesterday, great to see so many in the band,  very enjoyable time, they all loved the hand instruments!
Many thanks again. Peter".

Well thanks go to Joan for bringing the percussion and to the audience for putting £50.69 in the bucket which, when added to the fee of £75 means £125.69 goes to MAGGS. Result!

Regards

John

06/10/25 Clarence House

Very many thanks to the band who played at Clarence House today. We had to compete with a Tai Chi group for the room with a stage but their oriental postures were so threatening (not really!) that we thought better of having a dispute and retired gracefully to an alcove in the restaurant.
Once established, I think we did a good set. The band was particularly understanding about a couple of bits of brain fog from me, and followed faithfully when one or two songs did not quite follow the written versions! (thankyou band). After a teabreak, things motored along with dancing, audience singing and clapping. We earned a £65 gig fee and the Maggs bucket collection produced a princely £110.9p! So thanks very much to the generous residents at Clarence House and thanks again to the excellent band. Allan.

01/10/25 Pershore Volunteers Lunch Club

Hi Everyone

A big smiley thank you to the fourteen plucky players, who performed so energetically and entertainingly, at the Lunch Club in the St Andrews Centre, Pershore yesterday. Songs old and less old were played with gusto and to the enjoyment of the audience, many of whom we have come to know, due to the number of times we have played there before. £130.29  (£75 fee and £55.29 bucket) was added to our MAGGS total. We departed with the money and left the cheery group to their tasty lunch of sausage, mash, peas and onion gravy, not as if we noticed!!!

Regards, John

26/09/25 Spectrum Days

Hi all,

We had a great time at Spectrum Days on Friday 26th September, playing at their Coffee Morning. It was lovely to meet up again with old friends, and equally lovely to make some new friends.  We played 2 half-hour sets, comprising songs that have gone down well at all the previous gigs we’ve played there.  At half-time there was…
Yummy!  The mood in the room was brilliant: the usual chaotic, unrestrained joyfulness, with lots of arm-waving, chair-dancing, standing dancing and joining-in!  One new friend was enthralled by one of our number…
…and went to join in with another Wuccie…
…and even helped another with his strumming! (he obviously needed the help!)
Many, many thanks to the 11 Wuccies who joined me at Spectrum Days and who helped to make it such a joyful gig;  you know who you are, but for those who don’t know…

Cheers, Trevor

20/09/25 St Stephen's Church, Worcester

Hi everyone,

Thank you to all the players who braved the weather and played on Saturday at St Stephen’s church. The weather forecast wasn’t good but most of the rain stayed away.

The audience was a bit thin on the ground but those that were there enjoyed the show. Our two bucket rattlers Kate and Rosemary managed to extract an impressive £45.94 from the few that were there. So including the gig fee we raised another £120.94 for Maggs.

Thanks again for every one who came along and for your happy smiley faces throughout.

All the best,

Nick

14/09/25 Worcester City Run

Hi all, Many thanks to the Doughty Dozen who braved the forecast apocalyptic weather, the city centre road closures and the almost total lack of parking in Worcester today to come and play at the Worcester City Run gig.
We had a bit of a rocky start to the day, when we discovered that the covered stage I’d been promised by the organiser on Friday was, in fact, not available. After a couple of phone calls to said organiser and his boss, we decided to take matters into our own hands and set up on the plinth of Edward Elgar’s statue.  This proved to be a great move, because:
  1. The forecast deluge didn’t materialise so being covered was immaterial, and...
  2. We ended up right next to the running track.
We were supposed to do only one-and-a-half hours, but we ended up playing for very nearly two hours.

We covered 34 songs, including some that could have been written just for the day, including: ‘Keep On Running’ and ‘Da Doo Run Run’ (we decided not to send a message to Rudy, as we thought the first line Stop your running around - was not at all appropriate for the event!)

We saw lots of runners break into big smiles as they turned left from Deansway into the High Street and came across us.  We even saw some hand-clapping, hand-waving, arm-waving and rhythmical running, almost bordering on dancing, from all but the elitist of the elite runners.

Several runners approached us after they had finished and thanked us for lifting their spirits and making them smile. We were also thanked by members of a small but very appreciative audience sat drinking on the terrace of a café just the other side of the track.

Well done and congratulations, everyone.  A most enjoyable gig and another £75 into the Maggs kitty.

Cheers, Trevor

13/09/25 Bromyard Folk Festival

Evening All

Many thanks to all who played and helped with the workshop. It seemed to me there was some good audience engagement and those who came played well. Big thank you to John H. on the bass and John B et al for taking the workshop.

For those of us who attended on days other than the Saturday there was some good music played, Dervish excellent, alongside some lesser stuff, but that's Bromyard, like the Curate's Egg.

3 of us were there on the Sunday afternoon and had some nice heavy rain.

And for those who like to occasionally attend church, there was the 11:00 service, with dancing, unaccompanied singing and the right rev Bishop of Hereford giving us the benefit of his sermon, although I don't remember it was called a sermon... I think it was classified as a talk. So we'd know what it was. I don't attend church often but it's worth going once a year.

Well. There's my sermon, minus the Mount.

Thanks again, Tom
Hi All, here are some photos from WUC's annual appearance at Bromyard Folk Festival on lucky Sat 13th September. The weather was kind to us. These are from the 14.30 - 15.30 afternoon set in the Dave Jones bar tent, energetically led by Tom W. and with John H. on bass keeping us all in time. I thought we played and sang well. Special mention must go to Keith from the audience who played recorder accompaniment throughout, and to the audience who sang along with enthusiasm to our uke classics. Some of the audience turned up to John B's excellent 18.15 absolute beginners uke workshop, learning to do-do (Ron-Ron) a basic 3 chord song in just 1 hour!
We also had a lively evening 21.00 - 22.00 bar tent set - where we did ourselves proud and had the audience not just singing with gusto but up and dancing.

Until next year, Peter G.

07/09/25 Malvern Wells Summer Fete

Hi Everyone, Just got back from this gig and I am motivated to write straight away, to thank the intrepid players, who were there this afternoon and proved that, with a load of positivity and fun in mind, you can overcome the elements and produce a great performance, which the organisers were extremely pleased with. A lot of up-tempo songs helped to generate a 'weather-beating' atmosphere and a great try anything attitude from all the  players. This meant that the likes of 'Rock and Roll is King' and other newer songs had a great run-out. At around 11am this morning I thought that there was no way this gig would proceed but by 1pm, on The Village Green, the Wuccies were there and by 1.30pm we were up and running. By 2.15pm, at the end of our first set, we were applauded all around the Green. So WELL DONE ALL, hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as I did. Gig fee was £175 and we also collected (well done Rosemary) £30.33 which adds up to £200 plus for MAGGS. Regards John

16/08/25 Worcester Music Festival - Last 2 Gigs

Hi all, Today was the day that we did our last two gigs as part of the Worcester Music Festival.

Like last week, we played our first mini-gig of 35 minutes outside the Guildhall. We sounded good, got a good splattering of applause from the passers-by, and we were utterly delighted by the dancing from one very young girl. - under 2, at a guess - who pulled some impressively energetic moves to our equally impressively energetic rendition of Budapest.  When our time was up, we took a leisurely stroll to the Live Stage at the rear of Huntingdon Hall, where we completed our second mini-gig of 30 mins.  Again, we sounded good and accumulated quite a crowd, who joined in with many of the songs.  I don’t know quite what it says about the people of Worcester, that the song that the greatest number of people joined in with was our impromptu rendition of the closing theme to “Andy Pandy”.  I know what it does say about the generosity of the people of Worcester, though, when I counted the money in the buckets! I banked £156.53, and there was a payment by QR of £3, making a total of £159.53.

Many thanks to all the Wuccies who played today and on the Previous Music Festival gigs this year. The total raised over three weeks – just three hours and ten minutes of playing – is £433.83. Well done, everyone who played or who rattled a bucket

Cheers Trevor

16/08/25 Worcester Busks

Hi all, Worcester seemed quite quiet - deserted, almost - when we started arriving at our first venue, outside the Guildhall, at 10:15 this morning.  As the first act of the day we got off to a prompt start, and - whether it was because of our playing or in spite of our playing - the skies brightened and the High Street filled with people, who seemed to enjoy what they heard from us and who put the hands into their pockets, and the contents of their pockets into our buckets!

Our allotted 35 minutes were soon up, and we then discovered that it was not necessarily a mad dash to our next venue at the rear of Huntingdon hall, in the Crowngate Centre. Next week we will make it a leisurely stroll… although,, if he’s there, we will leave it to Terry to “Keep On Running”!  At the Live Stage we found we were following a rather excellent solo violinist, with keyboard accompaniment. They were from the Midlands Sinfonia, I believe. The sublime gave way to the ridiculous! The handover took some time (I was surprised at just how much kit a solo violinist and a keyboard accompanist cart around with them - such that we were around five minutes late starting. However, we were soon into the swing of things and once again many of the passers-by seemed to enjoy music as you did, the people dining and imbibing alfresco at Bills. Again, the time flew by, but we were being followed on stage by Tony Jay & Son together with our own John Hi on bass, and they kindly let us go over for 10 mins to make up for what time we lost at the start.

All in all, I thought today’s gigs were most enjoyable, and, having just finished, counting the money, most successful. There was the impressive amount of £180.02 in the buckets. Huge thanks to everyone who contributed to a very wuccessful morning, whether playing or rattling a bucket, and many thanks, of course, to the people of Worcester for their generosity.

Cheers Trevor

15/08/25 Welland House Care Home

Hi all, Many thanks to the Magnificent Seven, who met, on the other side of the magnificent Severn this afternoon to play for the residents of Welland House Care Home.  It’s always good fun at Welland House, swapping banter with the more mischievous members of the audience (you know who you are, Gary!) and the laughter continued today… making it hard to sing, at times!  We played well over our allotted time, finishing with You’ll Never Walk Alone (Gary’s choice) and Swede Carrot Lime. I’m sure everyone enjoyed themselves.  So, my thanks to Jan, Eileen, Bev, Frank, Nick (especially for sharing the leading) and John Hi (especially for coming from another, earlier, gig in Worcester to play bass) for adding to the merriment. The gig fee of £80.00 will be hitting our bank account sometime soon. Cheers Trevor

13/08/25 Kingfisher Court

Hi Everyone, Penny who organises the gigs at Kingfisher summed it up when she thanked the players for a superbly entertaining evening. That'll do! All I can say is that the group sang and played with smiles and laughs throughout the night. They were flexible and versatile, taking on a wide-ranging repertoire and even putting up with a singing competition! Thanks Jean and Shell for leading teams. Bottom line is for MAGGS the audience's appreciation was also shown by £90.50 in the hat on top of the £100 fee. Really well done all. Regards John

10/08/25 Bilford Court Retirement Village

Hi all, Many, many thanks  to the 14 who turned out to play at Bilford Court Retirement Village on Sunday 10th August, to help the residents with their Barbecue/Garden Party organised to raise funds for their Christmas dinner later in the year. To be honest, it was a tad warm, and the snow and ice of Christmas were miles away from our thoughts. It was hard going in those conditions, I thought, so thank you very much to the team for their energy and enthusiasm.  Thanks, also, to Bilford Court resident and Wuccy, Dennis, for providing the gazebo… and to whoever it was who served up the cold drinks!

Even though it was a bit of a sweaty slog, it was well worthwhile. We sang 25 songs… at just over £5 per song!  As well as the gig fee of £75.00, there was £50.56 in the collecting bucket.  Result!  That brings the total raised for Maggs this weekend to £219.84.

And finally… well done to those members who made their way to Blackpole from the farthest-flung corners of the County (or even a neighbouring county) and special congratulations to Nick, who hightailed it all the way from West Wales that morning, just to be there.  Also, great to see Richard McK back gigging with us again.

Cheers Trevor

09/08/25 Worcester Music Festival gig 1

Hi all,
Many, many thanks to the 23 Wuccies who played at our first gig in this year’s Worcester Music Festival today. We were on the Live Stage at the rear of Huntingdon Hall, following the Phoenix Choir, just like last year!  We sang 14 songs - more than half of them selected by the band members from our Busk Set. The band members obviously chose well, because our performance, full of energy and Joie-de-vivre got a good reaction from the passers-by… AND… MORE IMPORTANTLY… the buckets (rattled with flair and finesse by Rosemary and Kate the Bucket) yielded the impressive sum of £94.28.  A great result from about 55 minutes of singing and playing! Many thanks to Mark W-W for filling so well the position of bass-player.

We have a game of two halves next Saturday, 16th June, for our second outing in the Music Festival. with a first set outside the railings at the Guildhall from 10:45 until 11:20, then a quick dash to the Live Stage in the Crowngate Centre for a second set from 12:00 to 12:30.  I think there are a couple of places available. Get signed on via Muzodo if you’re interested.

Cheers Trev

02/08/25 Regent Care Home Worcester

Hi all, Many thanks to the 14 Wuccies who went to play at the Regent Care Home’s Musical Hour and Summer Fun gig this morning.  Parking proved to be a bit of a challenge, so extra congratulations to everyone for getting there, even if it did mean parking in Ombersley and walking!  We played for well over our allotted time to a very receptive audience, and even persuaded one of them - a young lady called Ellen - to join in on one of the songs.  She had owned up to being something of a ukuleleist in a conversation before we started!  We had a spare uke with us, as I delivered the latest auctioned uke to Colin TE , its new owner. There was lots of joining in, especially fron the Home’s eldest resident, a lovely lady who was born in 1930. There was a gig fee of £80.00 and - although we only mentioned the charity briefly and didn’t push it, there was £13.65 in the bucket.
Many thanks again to the Wuccies who made the gig such fun. You can see them all on tha attached photo… nearly. At the back, and out of shot, is Mark W-W, who played bass.  Thanks, Mark! Cheers Trevor

01/08/25 Three Choirs Hereford

Many thanks indeed to the excellent band who put on a great show on the Three Choirs Bandstand stage today. Special thanks to our 3 guest Hereford players, Mike, Jane  and Pat, who swelled our numbers, Mike playing bass, most competently. These 3 play with John M in a small Hereford band. We kept a good audience who enjoyed the show and paid us some nice compliments.
We were unable to collect for Maggs because the 3 Choirs Festival supports another charity, the Herefordshire Music Fund which supports music teaching for those who cannot otherwise afford it. The organisers produced a QR code for donation but I'm not sure how much it was used. There were no charity buckets so a bag for life had to do! The £13.43p in the bag bore no relation to the quality of performance which was excellent, as I have already said. It was a shame that we were unable to collect for Maggs but perhaps if we book a place on the 3 Choirs bandstand in future, we may be able to collect for our nominated charity....I hope so! So thanks again and well done everyone. Allan

31/07/25 Worcester Wheels Friendship Group

Hi all, Many thanks to the terrific team who turned up to play for the members of the Worcester Wheels Friendship Group today.  We have played there many times in the past, and the gigs have always been great fun. Today was certainly no exception to the rule. We played for about 1 hour 20 mins to a very receptive audience. The audience included a lady whose father once worked with Shirley Bassey - before she was famous - in a factory in Cardiff that made potties, and another lady who, as a child, danced with Frankie Vaughan at (if I remember correctly) the Hammersmith Ballet School. We were led, counted in and conducted most enthusiastically by Stan, and it was brilliant to see him there. In addition to the gig fee of £75.00, I have just paid £17.48 into the club account from the collection bucket. A great way to spend the last ever afternoon in July 2025! Cheers Trevor

26/07/25 Maggs Busk

Hi All, What an amazing day today Busking for Maggs, everyone worked so hard in the humid weather! In the morning we had a lot of young children dancing away to the music especially young Archie. He was quite shy initially; but eventually came upto me and showed me his toy helicopter! Then he decided to dance, then he helped me dance and rattle the buckets saying thank you each time a person donated money!  He was curious to see what was going on in the band and he then joined in with two sticks given to him by PG, he was one of us! He loved it so much he asked to speak on the mic and told Worcester he liked cars! The second time he said thank you and bye! A delightful child and his dad told me he had ADHD and often found it difficult to connect with people. He was so chuffed to see him enjoying himself he just let him have a free rein!
In the afternoon we had more teenagers who stayed to listen to a different selection of songs, waving their arms and taking pics/videos of as one person described us “An Experienced Bunch of Teenagers”! A lady of 81 danced with her stick, a man in his wheelchair was waving his arms to Hi Ho and another man tapping his toe! I spoke to a lady who was homeless 25 years ago due to poor mental health and now doing well, Maggs supported her whilst her life was difficult and she was so grateful of that.
There are lots of photos I will get to you and Trev is busy counting out a lot of money!
Regardless of the money collected today we once again raised the profile of Maggs and the wonderful work they do, we gave the public a lot of fun, played a lot of good music with comments like great music, I like the old songs, I liked the new songs, great band, you do an amazing job, keep it up and so on!
Thanks to all of you that helped out, Kate the Bucket, not feeling so great; but still came sporting a black eye from a fall and Maggie a volunteer from Maggs her first experience of a Wuccies Busk!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend Love Rosemary x
Hi all, Can I echo Rosemary’s sentiments and pass on my huge thanks to everyone who came along to support the Club’s Buskathon for Maggs today, whether you were on ‘earlies’ or lates… or, indeed, in the case of some, in it for the long haul and were there all day. It really was great fun… and financially rewarding!  Immense thanks to the great people of - or at least in - Worcester today, who put an astounding £728.47 into the buckets!  There were only 3 old £1 coins and only 12 Euro cents in foreign coins. Highlights of the day for me:  Archie Jones! What a lad! Cheers Trevor

17/07/25 Viscount Cobham Court

Hi all, I reckon it’s a great strength of the club that we can have two separate gigs going on in different parts of Worcestershire at the same time. So, while one group was rocking it for the Two In One Club in Worcester, another group of 10 was entertaining - and being entertained by - the residents of Viscount Cobham Court,  Malvern.  I think it’s fair to say that we all had a great time. There was super audience participation, both vocally and on percussion.  AND THE CAKE AT HALF TIME!!!!  OH, THE CAKE AT HALF TIME!!! DELICIOUS - AND HOME-MADE!!!!
Many thanks to the Wuccies who helped to make the gig so enjoyable. Thanks to them also for deftly dealing with a couple of songs that we haven’t sung at gigs very often - if ever - before.  We all wore our Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikiniis with flair and aplomb, and more than Seven of Us (not all of us Little Girls), sat in the Back Seat interacting in an appropriate manner with Fred!
We told the audience about our charity choice for the year, and - although we hadn’t taken, or even mentioned, collection buckets, many of the residents made a personal donation - via a teacup - at the end.  The upshot was that, including the £75.00 gig fee, Maggs will be getting an impressive £143.15 from the residents of Viscount Cobham Court.
All told, a great afternoon for WUC and Maggs, with a grand total of £243.15 being raised.  Many thanks to all… at both gigs. Cheers Trevor

17/07/25 Two in One Club

Hi Everyone, Many thanks to the ten Wuccies that came together today for the Two In One Club gig. There were lots of dance numbers including Hot Stuff, Crazy Little Thing, Livin’ La Vida Loca, Upside Down and many more which the young audience and staff really enjoyed. Well done the ‘band’ you were all tremendous. I’ve attached a photo. Look at those smiles. This was the fourth gig played for the Two In One club with a further two scheduled for August and  September. £400 raised for MAGGS. Regards John

15/07/25 Maggs Singalong

Hi, A small group of us did a gig at Maggs Day Centre today.
It was not as busy as last time; but those service users that were present seemed to enjoy our playing and singing alongside staff as well. We had a couple of requests and Nick who said he couldn’t sing and as a child was sent to the back of the class and told to mime the words, joined in Hi Ho and a Carpenters song and in that moment he could forget all his worries! There was some tapping of toes and a few twirls, little pleasures. As we left people sitting outside had a banter with us.
I am told we have hit the £5,000 mark which is so wonderful, thanks all on behalf of Maggs
Rosemary

12/07/25 St Georges

Today was one of the toughest gigs I have ever taken part in due to extreme weather conditions...HOT!! I would just like to say a huge thank you to all who played and sang two sets today your faces were as red as your shirts; but you played on to the bitter end!
On behalf of Maggs, Many thanks, Rosemary
Hi everyone, I would also like to thank everyone for turning up today and playing at what must have been one of the hottest gigs we have ever played. Every song we played was a fast one and most of them had the words hot, sunshine and dance in their titles. There wasn’t much of the latter going on! We had a welcome break with free tea and cake in the church hall before heading back out for the second set. Finishing with a magnificent rendition of “Hot Stuff”. Which is exactly what we were! Thanks again everyone. Nick
Hi Everyone, I can only concur with the views expressed by both Rosemary and Nick about today but would add that we had fun in the sun with good banter, playing and singing. Big thanks to Brian (drumming) and Ian (bass) for being a solid rhythm section and everyone else for being so professional. Madness of the day awards got to Terry and David H for running round the plot when we played Keep on Running!! Finally well done Nick for leading with me and being assured and funny whilst being front and centre. Great to see. We did collect (wow Rosemary!!) and took in £50.55 which with the fee of £75 makes £125.55. Regards John

09/07/25 Sight Concern

Hi all, A group of 12 met at Christchuch Church Hall, Malvern, to entertain the members of the Malvern branch of Sight Concern (soon to change its name to Sensory Matters). We received a warm welcome from the members, and we kicked off a programme of summery, sunshiny songs - some of which we'd never sung at a gig before - blended with a selection of our old classics. We had the huge benefit of Stan - yes!  THE Stan - who conducted, danced and sang along.  Unfortunately, he was a bit late getting there and he missed our first song (You Are My Sunshine) which we'd chosen just for him. It was great to have him with us, though.  We also had the equally huge benefit of Dennis, a 93-year-old professional clarinettist, who played along with us by ear.  Wow! What a talent!  We had a great time, singing and playing for around 50 minutes, and finishing with a magnificently rousing rendition of Delilah.
We received a gig fee of £80.00 and, after counting what was in the charity buckets, I paid  a further £78.59 into the bank: a total of £158.59 for Maggs.
So, it really was a brilliant afternoon.  Many, many thanks to the Wuccies and to the Sight Concern Members (especially to Stan and Dennis) who made it so good.

Cheers, Trevor

06/07/25 Malvern Food Festival

What a great gig we had at the Malvern Food Festival. The Malvern Uke Club (MUC) had the honour of being invited to be part of the programme at this fantastic weekend event and we were  joined by our friends from Worcester Uke Club (WUC) to swell the ranks and fill out the rather capacious Bandstand. We were like a magnet to the crowds, who, despite frequent showers were soon rockin'  to our unique beat and Rosemary's persuasive percussive bucket. A late donation (on its way to Trevor) pushed our collection over £150 ....   another  handsome contribution to MAGGS . Well done one and all.

Virginia     a proud MUCCY WUCCY

04/07/25 Oldbury Park School Fete

Many thanks to the band who assembled at short notice to play at the Oldbury Park Primary School Fete this afternoon. We played well together and attracted some audience interest and participation which is always welcome at a school fete when we are competing with pony rides, roundabouts and ice cream vans. The starts and finishes were crisp except for one of our favourite numbers where I missed out a repeat chorus and therefore finished the song several bars ahead of everyone else! Putting on the Agony indeed!....I'm not sure how much the audience noticed...may have thought it was a slightly unusual arrangement? The gig fee of £75 may have already been paid according to Susan, the very pleasant lady who looked after us very well. Thanks again to the band and to Oldbury Park Primary School for inviting us to play.

03/07/25 Pershore Volunteers Club

Hi Everyone, We were short of a bass player and Colin stepped in to lead while I played bass. Pattie and Maureen also came to join the the singing department. Thanks! The welcome from the audience was warm. They used the percussion very well and we played summery songs with a smile. There was appreciation and MAGGS have benefitted by £115.41 (£75 and £41.41). Regards John

01/07/25 St Stephen's Care Home

Hi all, A group of 8 Wuccies went to St Stephen’s Care Home, Worcester on Tuesday 1st July to help the staff and residents with their week-long celebration of things littoral, piratical and nautical: fun in the Sun by the seaside is what it was all about! They had requested several appropriate songs, including 'I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside'; 'Drunken Sailor'; 'Somewhere Beyond The Sea';  'My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean', and we duly obliged and included other relevant songs in our list. We took along printed lyrics sheets and we were delighted to see that we were singing WITH, rather than TO most of the residents.  We were supposed to do an hour, but we ended up doing almost an hour and a half.  Everyone seemed to enjoy our first visit to a lovely establishment, and - judging from the email received this morning - I don’t think it will be our last!

The gig fee of £75 will be wending its way to Maggs very shortly. Collection buckets weren’t really appropriate at the venue, although I did tell the audience about our charity, and one married couple - who sang along with just about every song - gave a very generous donation of £20 to go to the charity. So, £95 in total!

Many, many thanks to all the Wuccies who contributed their time and talent to make it a joyful and successful afternoon. Cheers Trevor

28/06/25 Upton Jazz Festival

Hi Everyone, What a very lovely gig yesterday making an excellent presentation of WUC values ie. good, entertaining, relevant and varied music, very well led front and middle. We played some jazzy material which the audience appreciated plus one or two variations! 'Take on Me', by 'Fats Louis Aha' went down very well as did 'Hot Stuff' dedicated to the weather. Colin got the ‘NoBelle' prize for song choice and Rosemary did a great job keeping the focus on MAGGS with both bucket and chat. She passed on a couple of comments - “That was great, really enjoyed it” and , “I love Maggs”. That about sums it up. Gig fee of £75 and £60.02 (£135.02) plus a lot of fun and banter with a great band were recompense enough. Viva WUC eh! Regards John

21/06/25 Latimer Court Care Home

Hi all, Many thanks to the 11 wonderful Wuccies who joined me at Latimer Court Care Home for their celebration today. (I know the photo shows 11 in total, but - no offence to him - we waited until Frank had left, a couple of minutes before we’d finished, before taking the photo! )
We were playing outside. There were no “Keep Off The Grass” signs, so we set up on the lawn. We played for just over an hour, covering 20 songs, including a couple of “new” ones. As we were playing outside, we kicked off with “Bring Me Sunshine”. Despite the fact that we were well into an official heatwave, there were a few spots of rain, but the Wuccies and the audience found it quite refreshing. We got lots of joining in and many nice comments at the end, so I think we all had a good time. Although we didn’t make a big thing of the charity and the buckets, there was £18.19 in them, which will go with the £75.00 gig fee, giving a £92.19 boost to the Maggs fund. Many thanks, again, to all who took part. Cheers Trevor

19/06/25 Gig for the Two In One Club Perdiswell

Many thanks to the band of ten Wuccies that braved the heat and my song pack to play for the Two In One Club yesterday. There were lots of dance numbers (including a couple never played at a gig before) which the TwoInOners loved. They even loved ‘You Can’t be A Pirate’ (modified to allow audience participation). Well done the ‘band’ you were all tremendous. I’ve attached a photo. Don’t worry if I appear to be smiling slightly - it’s just wind.

This was the third gig played for the Two In One club with a further three scheduled to be played from July to September. Well done John H for setting up this residency - each gig has a fee of £100. Colin

24/05/25 Wedding Gig - Burton Court Farm, Clifton-on-Teme

Many thanks to the excellent band who made the trip out to Bourton Court Farm near Clifton on Teme today. Satnavs and suspension were tested but we made it to a magnificent marquee, placed at the bottom of a manicured lawn where the happy couple were wed. Our sets were well received and there was dancing from the children including some ambitious gymnastic moves from one young lady in particular. At weddings, we don't expect to be the centre of attention but we did receive applause and at the end, some very nice compliments including "absolutely fabulous" and "the best thing I've heard for a long time" so we must have done something right! As well as the £100 gig fee, there was £36.65 in the charity buckets which we mentioned gently, it being a wedding, not a charity concert! After our sets, we were well looked after with a large plate of canapes for the band and drinks bought by the bride's father. All round, a good, happy gig in a lovely setting.

24/05/25 Go Wild in the Arboretum Gig

Hi all. Thanks to the band who put in a sterling performance at the Go wild in the Arboretum (Pocket Park) gig. It was a fun event with a good atmosphere. The audience was quite small but very appreciative and engaged. One engaged youngster did ask whether we could do some really up to date stuff.... Well we did manage Sweet Caroline on the back of the football a few years back. Parking was a bit tight but we overcame it with a cunning plan (a la Baldrick) and thanks to Helen C, which we can use again if the gig is repeated. Thanks especially to Mark for navigating his way to the bass slot and to Kate and Rosemary for sterling bucket work. They collected £48.23 which added to the gig fee of £75 comes to £123.23 for Maggs. Well done everyone.  Best wishes, Allan

09/05/25 RHS Spring Festival, Malvern

Hi all, We had a great day at the RHS Spring Festival at the Three Counties Show Ground today. You may remember from yesterday’s email that we had notched up £424.53 from the three gigs on Wednesday and Thursday. Well, today we added a further £125.00 (gig fee) and a brilliant bucket collection of £212.35.  Grand total over three days: £761.88.  Many thanks to all who helped make these last three days so enjoyable and so successful. Cheers, Trevor

08/05/25 Noble House VE Day Celebration

Hi all, Salutations and salutes to the proud platoon (volunteers all: not a single conscripted man (or woman!) among them) who fell in at eleven hundred hours to help the residents of Noble House, Worcester, with their VE Day Celebration. The platoon was well turned out - hopefully there'll be a photo or two soon to prove it - some in WUC uniform and some in military attire. After some basic training and drill (order ukuleles!  Attention!  By the right.... quiiiiick STRUM!) we played an hour-long set, comprising the WW II era songs we had practised, with a few of the old classics mixed in for padding.  All went well, and we sang our parting song - We'll Meet Again - just after the perfectly observed 2-minutes silence at 12:00.  This was, as far as I can recall, a first visit to Noble House (although I think we have played at Juniper House, next door), but we hope we will meet again. The audience were great, singing and clappng along, and they gave lots of lovely feedback to Joy as she went round with the Maggs bucket at the end.  They also gave lots of lovely money, with the gig fee of £70.00 being bolstered by a collection of £80.62.  A great gig!  Many thanks to all who helped make it so! Cheers, Trevor

08/05/25 Fort Royal Hill VE Day Celebration

Hi all, I don't know why they call it "Fort";  I don't know where the "Royal" comes from; but I certainly understand the "Hill" bit! I lugged the club kit (there's never a Sherpa round when you need one), up to the top of Fort Royal Hill on the evening of Thursday 9th May, where I met up with 22 other Wuccies to kick off the Worcester City Council's VE Day Celebration. We opened the show, playing our WW II era songs (the Vera era?) mixed in with some other club classics. Although things were quiet at first, the audience soon grew and their deckchairs got moved closer and closer. Despite the fact that, for some of us, this was the second parade of the day, we'd spruced up the uniforms, re-blancoed the belts and gaiters, used the hot spoon on the toe-caps and brassoed the badges and buckles, so we really looked the part.  Have a look at the photo and you will see some really neat costumes!  First prize must go to Jan, though!  As well as looking the part, we also sounded the part and we sang and played to an appreciative audience, who put at total of £66.58 into our collecting buckets, which will be added to by our gig fee of £75.00 from Worcester City Council. Many thanks to Worcester City Council for inviting us along to open the show, to the audience for the generous donations to our charity, and to the Wuccie Squadron who made it all happen. Cheers, Trevor

07/05/25 Meadow Court VE Day Celebration

Hi all, A bucketful of thanks to the 10 Wuccies who played in the VE Day 80th Anniversary celebration at Meadow Court this afternoon. We played two sets, which included our 10 ‘special’ VE Day songs, getting their first airing ‘for real’.  We coped admirably with the ‘new’ songs as well as with the GOCCs (Good Old Club Classics) we performed to fill our allotted time. In fact, we went quite a way over the allotted time, with lots of joining in with voices and percussion from a large, lively and appreciative crowd. As well as lots of lovely feedback at the end, we also got a gig fee of £75.00 and a bucket collection of £57.33 - so a total of £132.33 for Maggs.  Many thanks to the staff and residents of Meadow Court for making us so welcome and for their generosity. Cheers, Trevor

01/05/25 Mags Day Centre

Hi All, Today just a few of us played our first ever gig at Maggs Day Centre and I think it is fair to say it was pretty memorable, in a positive way.
At first it was just mostly staff present so Liam an outreach worker gave us a brief outline of the weekly routines and facilities available for clients. As we started to play so people drifted in for coffee and loads of cakes donated by a primary school.
Trev had very kindly printed out a song booklet for people to join in. Throughout the hour staff, volunteers and clients were on the move around the centre, some singing, some chatting, some sorting out their problems and some dancing!
Two lovely young ladies joined in one who threw her heart and soul into all the songs. She had perfect rhythm, played her tambourine and sang as though it would be the last song she ever sang. She told us she was having a bad mental day today and us being there really helped her feel better. She thanked each one of us individually shaking our hands. One couldn’t; but help feel all that natural talent she had, if only her life could turn around for the better.
We ended the morning by playing Valerie to rapturous applause and a feeling we had done a good job and given a bit of fun, laughter and love to all present. Thanks to Trev, Phil, Colin, Shel, Sue, Nick and Frank!

25/04/25 Welland House

Hi all, Many, many thanks to the Significant Seven who put their SatNavs to the test and travelled to the Welland House Care Home this afternoon, for what must be our fifth or sixth visit.  Our gigs there in the past have always been hugely enjoyable, and today’s gig certainly followed the pattern. We got a great welcome from resident Gary and the rest of his friends. We played for around an hour and twenty minutes, ably aided by many of the residents on percussion and vocals. We did a mix of our good old tried-and-trusted classics interspersed with a few ‘specials from the World War 2 era.  This session was brought to a magnificent close with a rousing solo rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Gary.
I think we Wuccies all enjoyed the gig, and I am told that the Wellanders enjoyed it as well.  A gig fee of £80.00 will shortly be making its way into our charity coffers, so a WIN-WIN-WIN situation. Trevor

17/04/25 Two In One Club at Perdiswell Leisure

Hi Everyone, Here is a quick report from our gig today at the Two-in-One club. Here were a large number of young adults and helpers ready to dance and sing for an hour. A strong group of players provided the required entertainment with a really energetic programme of music. Then we all went home for a rest!! This was the first of a run of monthly gigs we have deservedly acquired, each bringing £100 for MAGGS. The picture was taken as we started! With our very own glitter as well, Regards, John

27/03/25 Worcester Wheels Friendship Group

Hi all, Many thanks to the nine Wuccies who played for the Worcester Wheels today. We played for just over an hour to a very appreciative and participative (is that even a word), who sang, played and danced along throughout.  We got lots of lovely feedback at the end, both in terms of ‘thank-yous’ and in terms of cash in the collecting bucket.  As well as the £75.00 gig fee, there was £45.41 in the bucket. Many thanks, Wuccies, and many thanks Worcester Wheels for being a great audience. It was a really enjoyable gig, and I’m already looking forward to out next visit! Cheers Trevor

17/03/25 Rose Garden Gig

Many thanks to the band that made the long journey out west to play at the Rose Garden, Hereford. We played to a very appreciative audience who sang along to a lot of our songs. It being St Patrick's day we played a number of Irish songs and some which had some very tenuous Irish connections....also a few which had never seen the light of day at one of our gigs (to my knowledge!). Special thanks to Trev for transporting all the kit and support with the leading, to Ian for playing bass and to Rosemary for a potted presentation for Maggs. Trev will be counting and banking the proceeds and I'm sure will tell us what they were. Also, hope that Trev gets a good tea when he gets home as he's leading tonight! Best wishes to all. Allan.

15/03/25 Buskathon For Maggs - Outside Debenhams, Worcester

Hi All, I just wanted to say a personal huge thank you to all who played today. It was indeed bitterly cold even with the sun out; but we didn’t waiver at all. Loads of compliments from the public, brilliant, amazing, I like the singing to name; but a few. One young lad of 21 homeless for 9 months came up to me and said “Thank you for all you do for Maggs, I use Maggs they support me. Thanks again, Rosemary
Hi All, What can I say, just wonderful, £578. 34p in 4 hours, such an achievement by us all. It was a lovely atmosphere in Worcester High Street today, lots of people listening to us and many singing along as well. I was worried one chap was going to choke on his fish and chips trying to sing and eat at the same time!! Lots of little ones danced and also lots of teenagers joined in and donated money, the most I have ever experienced in all the years I have been busking with Wuccies. Special thanks to our leaders Trev, Nick and Colin and our bases Ian and John He for keeping us in time! Great day, well done everyone and I managed to dance 15,169 steps very pleased with that! On behalf of Maggs thanks Rosemaryx
Nice to hear ut was such a successful day Rosemary - Rob
Well done for surviving the cold and collecting such a good amount - Elaine

10/03/25 Spectrum Days

Hi all, We had a great time at Spectrum Days on Monday 10th March, helping member Sam to celebrate his 50th Birthday.   I received this lovely email and photos from Anwen a couple of days ago.  Well done and thank you everyone for helping to make it such a great day. Cheers Trevor

06/03/25 Perdiswell Two in One Club

Well, what a great gig we had at the Two in One Club yesterday. It was the 10th anniversary of the club and everyone there had already been entertained by a Magician and were ready for a sing-along. What with the percussion instruments that they had and the singing and laughing, it was difficult to hear ourselves play at times over the melee. (Now I know what it must have been like for the Beatles at Shea Stadium). We gave them an hour of some of our favourite songs and they seemed to know all the words to them.
To round the afternoon off, we were all treated to a lovely slice of birthday cake which went down very well with an exhausted Band.
Thank you so much to everyone who played, we sounded great when you could hear us.
See you all soon, John

20/02/25 St Paul's Freindship Club

Morning Everyone, A brief report to thank the nineteen Wuccies who congregated at St Paul’s on Thursday. This regular and welcoming gig was no exception and Peter (pictured below)  the organiser gave us great feedback and an invite back. Big thank you to Ian for stepping in on bass and Dave Su for helping me tell the crowd about what we had learnt watching the UOGB in Malvern the night before. As they say Dave has the T-shirt and he also showed them the ukulele 'baton waving’ with a uke that many of us witnessed!! All were impressed! One of the regulars, David, requested we play ‘Cleaning Winders’ which luckily we found. Thanks to Steve C and Ian for pictures and last but not least the audience, many of whom did a bit of dancing and singing! The audience added £69.55 to our gig fee of £70 thus making £139.55 which I have now paid to WUC for the benefit of our charity MAGGS.

All in all a colourful, jolly and rewarding gig. Regards John and Peter

14/02/25 Westmead Care Home

Hi all, A group of 11 Wuccies paid a first-ever visit to Westmead Care Home in Droitwich… on St Valentines Day, no less, where we played and sang the loviest-doviest songs we could find in our extensive repertoire. (OK, so we also sang Runaround Sue and Delilah for a bit of balance!). What resulted, I thought, was a cracking little gig that was really enjoyed by players, audience and staff alike. One of the highlights was during our rendition of Save The Last Dance For Me, when a husband and wife got up and gave a wonderful dance.  She has dementia and is a resident in the home: he lives close by and visits her daily. It was one of those unforgettable moments that brought a tear or two to the eyes.  It somehow encapsulated why we do what we do! We played for about an hour and a quarter. The Maggs charity fund is now £75.00 better off. We made some new friends and we’ve been promised that we’ll be invited back. Huge thanks to the Wuccies who made it such a successful day. Trevor

13/02/25 Perdiswell Mature Club

It was our pleasure on Thursday to represent WUC and Maggs at the Perdiswell Mature Club and, as it turned out, the Two in One Club ! The Mature Club turned out to be a great crowd who joined in enthusiastically. However, if you look at the photos, you can see another group behind us joining in, who gatecrashed from the Two in One Club. I would like to mention and thank Terry, John Hi and Phil for their excellent kazoo work whilst proving that men can move and play/blow at the same time, ie. two things! Although we were two players short, the 10 of us more than compensated and we were invited back. The bonus was that the Two in One Club have offered a new gig as well.

Good news added to the  £75 fee and £95.84 in the bucket, Maggs have benefitted to the tune of £170.84 in total.

Regards John

16/01/25 School Gardens Retirement Village, Stourport

Hi Everyone, Just a quick note to you all to say that it was a pleasure to represent WUC and our new charity yesterday in Stourport. It was a superb gig and very professionally and enthusiastically delivered. Well done all (see photo for the guilty parties)! On Facebook as well is a video of ‘Dance the Night Away’ featuring what we now call “The BOX TURN”! Check it out!
It was also an opportunity to introduce Maggs and I would like to thank Rosemary for her insights and in particularly Martin Holder who provided for the audience a very human insight into supporting this organisation. We were very well received and Maggs now has received £100 gig fee plus £47.80 in the bucket. Regards John

07/01/25 Bromyard Road Methodist Church

Hi All,
Well, we certainly got the gigging year off to a great start today with a cracking session at Bromyard Road Methodist Church. Many thanks to the 12 Wuccies who played and sang so well. This was just a 30 minute gig, but we packed a lot into that half hour! The audience - a full house - were brilliant and well up for it. We had promised that there would be no Christmas songs and no modern songs. They wanted classics from the latter half of the last century, and that’s what they got! (luckily, that’s our forte). There was lots of singing along, the best bit of which being when the ukulele group sang just the first three lines of the chorus of “Teenager in Love“, and the audience finished it off for us…. although the massed voices belting out the chorus of Those Were The Days” was also epic!
It was a really enjoyable gig  made even more so by the gig fee of £60.  Andy, the organiser, was delighted with the way things went, and we can expect an invitation back there in the non-too distant future.
Many thanks to everybody who took part.

Cheers, Trevor
