17 Dec Catenian Dinner - Worcester Rugby Club
10 Dec Crowngate Worcester
Hi Guys, I’m sure you’ll all agree, it was a lovely gig tonight (phew… not windy… but boy it got cold!). Admittedly, we could have done with a bit more foot fall, but we sounded excellent, and still managed to collect £37.63, AND sell a CD - whoop whoop etc :-).
I can only apologise for my totally mucking up the count in for Delilah… but your professionalism prevailed so it still sounded great, and even with our small transient audience, I could still see people singing along. Cheers, Lorry |
9 Dec Pump House Worcester
Thanks to everyone who made it to this venue this morning, it eventually went very well, the ladies were very interested and we sold several CD's. The mix up with expected numbers was unfortunate so apologies and special thanks to those who travelled but volunteered not to play, thanks also to Bill for counting in. Regards, Chris.

1 Dec Malvern Inner Circle
Hi All, Thanks everyone for performing for the ladies last night, we had lots of positive feedback from them and a cheque of course, well done. Thanks also to Mark for counting, Richard and John for making our performance "whole" with their interesting narrative.
Chris.

28 - 29 Nov Worcester Xmas Markets
Thanks to all players who came along this afternoon - some for the second time this weekend! We looked very dashing in our Xmas attire, especially, I think, Sue in her ’tea cosy’ Xmas tree hat; although I’m not sure about Colin, who was apparently wearing his every night pyjamas :-)
Once again I felt sympathy for our audience in very testing ‘windy’ conditions, where it was critical to have 2 feet on music stands at all times! So it isn’t a surprise we missed a beat here and there on some of the slower less well known songs - no matter, our fans still approved and donated £62.67. This, added to The Naughty Corner collection, (directly after us - £58.20), and our collection on Saturday afternoon (£40.88), mean we have collected £161.75 this weekend - a good start to our MAAC year! If anyone has more photos, please send them to me. Cheers Lorry |
21 Nov Marks and Spencer, Malvern
To everyone who played at M&S this morning. A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our last gigs for MND & McMillan. We had some very positive feedback- all the girls in the store I spoke to afterwards want us to go back again so I'll see if it can be arranged. We raised a lot of money but will have to wait until Pete counts it to find out how much! Have a great weekend and a well earned rest. At least we were in the warm!! Thanks again. See you Monday. All the best, Lyn
20 Nov Late Night Christmas Shopping Crowngate, Worcester
Hi Everyone. Thanks to everyone who played in the Crowngate last night. We enjoyed ourselves but it was a bit dead! Bucket totals were MNDA £7.15 and MacMillan £5.80! I expect that late night shopping will be busier for the other gigs we have in the Crowngate and hopefully Lyn and her team will have a good collecting day at Marks and Spencer in Malvern tomorrow. Just £140 to get to the web site target so no pressure! Colin
13 Nov Children In Need 7 Gigs in 7 Days - Day 7b The Hive, Worcester
13 Nov Children In Need 7 Gigs in 7 Days - Day 7a The Talbot Inn, Knightwick
12 Nov Children In Need 7 Gigs in 7 Days - Day 6 The Bush Inn St Johns, Worcester
What a great ‘intimate’ occasion we had tonight with a small ever-changing audience, consisting initially of groupies, but later on, of regulars who wanted several encores! They obviously enjoyed themselves, donating £58.25 to our cause this week :-). For such as small group of players, the playing, acoustics and harmonies were lovely throughout.
Special thanks: to one of our audience, who Rosemary persuaded to play Pudsey for us!; to Glenda and the folks at The Bush Inn, for having us; and to our special guest ‘counter-inerer’ Emma, who gave it a go in a few songs, and did a good job! Cheers Lorry |
11 Nov Children In Need 7 Gigs in 7 Days - Day 5 Old Cock Inn Droitwich
Thanks to everyone who turned up and played at this event tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and thought we all sounded great, with tight starts and finishes. Special thanks again to the indefatigable Caroline H for her marathon session inside the Pudsey suit! We raised a total in the buckets of £114.05p, which was very respectable for a small pub audience on a Wednesday. The canal boaters deserve our thanks for publicising the event in the town and liaising with the pub, this was very helpful. Pete T

10 Nov Children In Need 7 Gigs in 7 Days - Day 4 Keystones Bar Worcester
We collected £108.37 (including a £20 donation from Keystones). Pudsey performances have been excellent so far but tonight Caroline H was tremendous and the best so far. Her performance will be hard (impossible?) to beat. The band gave set list two an airing, sounded good and enjoyed themselves. Colin
9 Nov Children In Need 7 Gigs in 7 Days - Day 3 Drummonds Bar Worcester
|
Whoa, what a night! Great ukulele fun was had by all 70+ people who attended, which must be the largest gathering of ukers in Worcester EVER!.
Thanks to the three magnificent associated groups for leading the evening: The Poor Boys The Naughty Corner Wilf's Carnival Band ...to the guys at the Swan with Two Nicks for having us (and chipping a whopping £50 into the donations bucket! :-) ) ...and to Colin for organising the event, where we raised and extremely impressive £257.70. |
8 Nov Children In Need 7 Gigs in 7 Days - Day 2 Clarence Park Retirement Village Malvern
Hi everyone
Another fantastic collection for CIN today with a total of £244.83. Colin A great effort, well received :-) Well done to Pudsey, and to our guest musicians 'The Clarence Parkers'. Lorry Thank you all for your time coming to Clarence Park and entertaining us elders and for your expertise and volume that camouflaged my occasional ‘glitches.’– I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I heard some really positive feedback. I hope that the WUC may return in the New Year. With appreciation, Ken |

Colin for leading, Richard for facts and chatter, also Richard and Sue for wonderful walkabout. Great fish and chips from the Grace community and thanks to Tom at the Talbot pub. 12th - 13th Sep Bromyard Folk Festival
A very big thank you to all the players who came to Bromyard this year and made it such a memorable occasion. I'm sure we'll be back next year. The second set was sensational! In addition special thanks to Liz and Bob for getting and keeping the camping territory for us so we could camp together; Patrick who organised the workshop and the volunteers who were there to help; and all those who did the Music Hall set. And someone who wasn't there but who printed new/prepared the sheets for us - thanks Bill - it was nice and tidy to get all the sheets in order in the 2 packs. [I hope they'll arrive back in reasonable condition.] We sung the lot plus King of the Swingers again for the 2nd set encore. Quite some set 1.19min and the 1st set was as long if not more so. Thanks again. Tom

22nd Aug Walwarpe Fete
16th Aug Worcester Show (Gheluvelt Riverside Park)
Thanks to all the players today, you sounded all kinds of awesome from where I was leading stood in front of you. Intros, breaks, outros were all really tight and the singing was spot on plus you all looked like you were really enjoying which made it a vibrant and enjoyable set. Not to mention we pocketed £75 for our chosen charities. Oh and we were probably playing in front of several hundred people (which is possibly the largest gig the WUC plays?) so well done to the relative newbies for conquering any nerves they may have had. 2nd Aug Worcester Foodie Festival
All, Foodie Festival - town was really busy (more people than the motor show). We played on an excellent stage. We all easily fitted on and it was easy to hear and see what was going on at either end. There was a good crowd who gave us plenty of applause. The band performed well.
If you have signed up to play Foodie Festival on Sunday it should be good, Colin

15th Jul Swanpool WI
We played for Swanpool WI who meet at the Methodist Church Hall, Bromyard Road, Worcester. . Sorry, no piccies. Even though this was a an afternoon gig we mustered an impressive fourteen players including three making their debut performance. You wouldn’t have known it though as the band sounded fine. After an hour or so of playing we all enjoyed an excellent spread of food laid on by the WI members. Colin.
12th Jul Callow End Village Hall (Summer Do - Tea At Three)
11th Jul Callow End Music Festival
Aha! a video of a pretty good 'Bad Moon Rising' (slightly bias opinion there :-) )
|
Thanks to all who played a magnificent set on a very changeable Saturday afternoon.
...This is the only picky I have found so far to prove we were actually there!... Even if the picky actually looks as if one of our members is robbing another at gun point, whilst they all hold their machine guns in cases! ... hmmm... maybe I've been updating this website too long. Will keep looking for more pickies... |
4th Jul Kempsey St Mary's Fete
Andy Kelso, Worcester Warriors chaplain, was walking around the fete in his Elvis outfit with Mark Badger the rector and they were went to one of the stalls just as the ukulele players reached Elvis Presley's 'Let Me Be Your Teddy Bear' in the song list. So we called over to Andy 'Elvis' to join us - he was even carrying his old teddy bear that he found in a skip and uses in his gospel tribute act - and after a bit of persuasion he happily joined us taking the mic and obviously not needing the music as he knew every word! We finished to great applause and we were very pleased to have been joined by such a wonderful guest singer who was in the right place at the right time.
28th Jun Upton Jazz Festival
Thanks to everyone who played today at Upton Jazz Festival, you all contributed to a great performance, the large crowd seemed to love it, evidenced by the fact that many stayed all through. Special thanks to Bill for the music, John and Mark for counting in and Richard and Eirlys for engaging the audience so well. I have played in lots of performances by WUC, that was one of the most rewarding, thanks again.

Dear Bill
Just a quick note to thank you and your friends at the WUC for all you brought to us and shared with us last Sunday at the Three Counties. It was great to have you on board again, and your "Performance" music was very much enjoyed by everyone. Your playing at the Come and Sing was brilliant, again - and such immense fun! Thanks to everyone for coming and for entertaining and leading us so well. And thanks to you for making it all happen. With every best wish and prayer, (Rev) Steve |

16th May Worcester Motor Show
Well done ladies and gents... for the 5th year running, the Club performed at the motor show.
A great big 'Thank You' to the generous people of Worcester who put a fabulous total of £204.56p into the collecting buckets. Thank You also to Worcester BID for their help in getting us this spot (our favourite!). As one of our members put it: "Worcester Ukulele Club having fun & raising lots of money for good causes - a great combination!!" |
9th May Beginners Workshop
Thanks to Sophie
and the crew for letting us use the excellent Drummonds Bar venue once more, this time, to hold
our first Beginners Workshop this year.
...and thanks too, to the helpers and attendees… where there were absolute beginners, U3A members and one or two who are already Monday club night newbies. |
The chromatic scale was covered as an exercise for improving technique. The guys then concentrated on changing chords in 4/4 time with the objective of playing the progression C Am F G7.
The result was that everyone ended up playing Whiskey in the Jar, Runaround Sue and 7 other songs! (not bad for total newbies!), and there was even singing from both sides of the room in competition with each other, so a few laughs were had along the way. All in all, a fun and productive morning.
We anticipate running another Beginners Workshop over the coming months.
Thanks Rich

Thanks all for today. Thanks to Lorry for the MD-ing, and for the extended talky-bits - even the bits we groaned at! Ursula and her handbell-ringing team were really pleased (again) with our performance.

At the start of the show, The Club presented a cheque for £2,500 to Sas Freeman, volunteer ambassador on behalf the Stroke Association, the club’s chosen charity for 2013-14. Also present was Richard White, Director at Stanfield Nursing Home, which provides music therapy as part of its programme of dementia care.

5th Apr Croome Park
Can I say a big thank you to your group, we had some really lovely comments, and again the mood of the day was totally lifted by the wonderful music you produce. Each time you visit I'm met with wonderful comments from staff, volunteers and visitors. What strikes me particularly from visitors is how many parents comment that this was their child's first encounter with a live band, which is so important.

...ahhh, but have you ever played a Uke in a shop?? ...ok then, what if it's not a music shop and the doors keep opening an closing as people walk past??? Well these folks have now - whilst helping to raise money for the Friends of Malvern Hospital charity - well done guys! |

21 Feb Rough Diamonds Concert
|
Thank you everyone who took part in the terrific Rough Diamonds Concert last night. I had lots of good feedback from people I knew in the audience, and some interest in joining us, learning to play and doing gigs at other places. I could hear everyone from my position at the front and you played well, in time and beginning and ending beautifully. It was good to hear the audience in the singalongs too. Louder than we were some of the time.
