20/12/19 Stonebow House, Pershore
A huge Thank You to a small but stalwart band of brothers and sisters who played at Stonebow House this afternoon. I was worried we might outnumber the audience at one point but we ended up with a very lively crowd. We gave Trevor's selection of songs and festive sing-alongs it's final airing of the year which went down very well with everyone. One of the gentlemen there seemed to know all the words and it turned out that he used to play with Joe Brown. If I don't see you on Monday at the club, a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, I hope Father Christmas brings you everything you hoped for. John
19/12/19 Perdiswell Mature Club, Young People's Leisure Club
Thanks to everyone who sang and played at the Perdiswell Mature Club today especially Mark on bass, Phil for passing on two jokes that I used at the gig and our two reindeer. You may not want to know this but apparently whilst Santa’s reindeers all have male names they are in reality female because females retain their antlers during the winter and male reindeer do not. Santa's reindeer are always depicted with antlers. Male reindeer also lose nourishment and vitality during the winter months, so only the females are strong and healthy enough to pull a sleigh full of toys and a 260-lb. man. And they still have time to do all of the washing, ironing and cook Christmas dinner. Back to the plot. We received a gig fee of £50 and the collection in the buckets totalled £76.83 which is excellent. My Christmas outfits are now going in the wash before being put away until next year. Hooray! Colin
19/12/19 Probus Christmas Lunch at Gaudet Luce Golf Club, Droitwich
I say a huge “well done!” and an equally huge “congratulations!” to the select group who played to the Probus Christmas Lunch at Gaudet Luce Golf Club, Droitwich, today. Our playing and singing was brilliant, and our audience joined in enthusiastically. We got many plaudits and thanks from the group as they made their way out at the end. They also put their hands into their wallets, and I am delighted to say that there was £164.29 in the bucket! I have written to John, the Probus chairman, to say how much we enjoyed ourselves and to ask him to pass on our thanks to the members for their conviviality and their generosity. Cheers Trevor
17/12/19 Seabourne Lodge, Kempsey
Well, what can I say. What a team! I know I’m a hard task mistress but today the fabulous dozen who played at Seabourne Lodge in Kempsey deserved an A**. The singing and playing, the intros and outros (if there is such a word), were spot on and thank you all so much for your energy and enthusiasm. It was a delight to lead you. Special thanks to you John for your brilliant bass playing, as always, and for keeping us together and for setting up all the mikes, etc, as that is double Dutch to me. The audience were great and we must have done ok as they want us back next year. Also, as well as the £50 gig fee we were given an extra £55 in donations! It was a very enjoyable gig. Thank you Colin for getting me ‘back on the horse’! And thank you to the setters up and takers down of the stands, copies, etc. You all made it very easy for me as a leader. Thank you all so much Eirlys

16/12/19 Gheluvelt Court, Barbourne, Worcester
Hotfoot from tonight's Uke meeting where we presented that massive cheque to Parkinson's, a great big `thank you` to the superb band that played this afternoon. Really crisp starts and finishes and excellent playing and singing in between!!! Trev informed me that the total bucket collection was £91 which was great considering we had audience of around 30 to 40. They all enjoyed themselves and we even had some `Strictly Come Dancing` wannabes at one point. Some great refreshments after the performance rounded off the afternoon......a great little gig. Thank you again! Rob
11/12/19 Pitmaston Primary School Christmas Fayre
Boundless thanks to the gallant crew who sang at the Pitmaston Primary School Christmas Fayre tonight. We may have got the ‘standing’ without the ‘ovation’, but it’s what’s to be expected at that sort of do. We played very well and sang very well - even if the twerp counting in made us sing the Calypso Carol so allegrissimo that it was almost the Collapso Carol! - and I did get some favourable feedback from parents on my way out. Many thanks to dear Anne (actually, Reindeer Anne) who valiantly rattled her bucket and interacted with some of the younger punters. With the main focus of the event being to raise money for the School, the bucket was not very heavy at the end, but I will be paying £6.75 into the club’s charity account later on this evening. Cheers Trevor
12/12/19 Hagley & Holy Wells Masonic Lodge Ladies Informal Evening, Halesowen Masonic Center
Thanks to the band that played in Halesowen last night. It’s a fair distance to travel but it was worth it because the Masons and their ladies like us. That was not a surprise because we did play and sing very well. I say faultless and I don’t give praise unless it is deserved. Colin
12/12/19 Blind Veterans UK Christmas Lunch, Ravenmeadow Golf Club
“Thanks to the team who braved the wind and rain to play for the Blind Veterans today. We were a tad squashed but we played and sang well. Don’t think I’ve ever played Happy Birthday for a dog before.” Thanks, Elaine
Rob says:
Well, it was a lively set from a fullsome ensemble......they all enjoyed our mix of standard songs and Christmas numbers. Some excellent audience participation including a lively percussion group made the performance all the more worthwhile. Thanks to Geoff for his great Bass lines and thank you to Elaine for helping to lead.......we had a lot of very positive comments so well done everyone!!

11/12/19 Cookhill WI
What a fun time we had at the Cookhill Ladies `Do` last night to round off our tour of WI Christmas Parties!!! As far as the rankings now go Cookhill pulled a blinder and are probably the winners on balance although Peopleton and North Claines are close runners up!!! Ably lead by Colin, Trev and John we had a good line up of disciplined players who kept to strict starts and stops and good tempo in between. Thank you to all and also to the WI for feeding us and being such a good audience on a cold wet winter night! A copy of their `thank you` message is below...... Rob

11/12/19 Parkheath Friendship Group
Hi all, Another triumph today for the WUCCIES at the Parkheath friendship group gig. Thank you one and all. Our audience sang almost as well as we did. Great atmosphere and Phil's lucky ticket won him a lovely hamper for Christmas especially provided raffled off by the residents in aid of our charity.......... ARUK in addition to the fee. How kind was that! ⭐ Best wishes Virginia
10/12/19 Peopleton WI
Well the competition to find the `Best Christmas WI Party` is hotting up.....up to last night North Claines had it in the bag but there was some fierce competition from the Peopleton crew who upped their game substantially once they knew what the stakes were!!
There was some great singing and playing to support them from a very well dressed band in great festive mood. Thanks to all of you who played and sang well and special thanks to Trev for preparing the "Taylor-made" sets of songs and risking his vocal chords yet again with some superb scatting on `Wanna Be Like You`. Some good bass lines from John kept us in order and his Bass sounded even better after break when he got his hat back!
On top of our £75 fee we also `bucketed` a further £26.85 making a total of just over £100 towards our new charity.....
A great night and thank you again to the ladies of Peopleton WI for feeding us so well and supporting us in our quest for the `Top WI` this Christmas!!!.......and so, on to Cookhill WI tonight!!!! Rob

10/12/19 Clifton on Teme WI
Many thanks to the Festive band that played to the jolly ladies of Clifton on Teme WI last night. A fun gig with lots of audience participation and appreciative comments at the end. Good singing and playing with good tight endings. Well done everyone. Allan.
9/12/19 Park Heath WI
A quote from:
https://twitter.com/northclaineswi/status/1204827758867685376 Brilliant December meeting when we were entertained by @wucies ( Worcester Ukulele Group) with one member having “blue, blue suede shoes” ( remember the song?) and had fantastic members’ buffet. |
30/11/19 Christmas Markets
Hello everyone, Well the gin bottle is coming out soon but before it does......
Massive thanks to all who played and sang today, either at the Hop Market or Bell square. Particular thanks to those who did both. Thank you for indulging my need to play just Christmas songs, over and over and over. Good old Jingle Bells eh? I’ve counted the money but it hasn’t been checked yet, however, I think we raised £69.96 at the near empty Hop Market and £139.63 in Bell square. A grand total of £209.59. Thanks again, Elaine |
23/11/19 Christopher Whitehead
Many thanks to the band that played at Christopher Whitehead today.....our first Christmas gig for 2019 and the re-discovery of our Christmas Songs...we played 'em all (+ a few more from songpack 4). One or 2 mini glitches but most sung and played with plenty of Christmas Spirit. Thanks as ever to Geoff for playing bass while disguised as a turkey (though he claimed it was a reindeer at one point) and special thanks to Kate who put in her final appearance as the Parkinson's bucket collector. Well done everyone, best wishes, Allan.

17/11/19 Children In Need Fund Raiser, Clarence Park
Thanks to Ken for inviting us (to Clarence Park), to Trevor for spending hours producing the song sheets and bringing the kit over, to Anne and Rosemary for being Pudsey bears and everyone else for playing and singing along so well. We had lots of positive feedback at the end. Fantastic collection, thanks to Ken’s wife Eileen... Elaine
10/11/19 Children In Need Fund Raiser, Crowngate Worcester
Thank you sooooo much all of you for your goodwill, effort, humour, resilience and wonderful playing and singing! We had loads of compliments from the shops and shoppers loving the music. The children were an absolute joy, one child was even driven in by family just to see Pudsey! The stickers went down a storm, how people love a happy sticker!! Rosemary
26/10/19 Parkinsons UK Fund Raiser, Crowngate Worcester
Many thanks to everyone who turned out to play on a cold and wet day in CrownGate yesterday to raise some more money for Parkinson’s Worcester & District branch. Thanks to John and Geoff for playing bass, John, Eirlys and Colin for leading, Anne and Helen for being the monkey and rattling the buckets. The day was a huge success and I am very grateful to everyone for all that they did. Beverly
16/10/19 Temple Grafton WI, Alcester
Thank you to the 11 stalwarts who turned out to play for the WI ladies tonight. There were lots of very positive comments from the audience and it is always a good sign when they join in as they did with gusto!! Special thanks to Chrisie and Terry who stepped in to fill the vacancies. And as usual, thank you to John H. For keeping us all together with a strong bass line. A good little gig in a small hall with good acoustics. Rob
12/10/19 Worcester Festival of Music, Claines Church
A huge thank you to the small, but talented, group who played a blinder at the Worcester Festival of Music concert held in Claines Church this afternoon, Sat 12th Oct. At first, I wondered whether the organiser, Shulah, might have misunderstood what a ukulele band is and does, when I saw that other acts included a concert pianist, a viola virtuoso, a choir and a saxophone quartet. However, we got the thumbs up from Shulah as we were doing our sound check. and then we got rapturous applause from the audience when we opened the show with four of our classic - if not classical - songs! When we finished our set, we then sat back and enjoyed the rest of the concert. There was no gig fee for this performance, nor were there collection buckets, but it certainly helped to cement WUC’s place on Worcester’s musical map. Trevor
11/10/19 Singing for Oscar, Sainsbury St Johns
A great big thank you to the merry band(s) of Wuccies who kept the shoppers entertained and relieved of their cash at our marathon 3 hour fundraiser at St. John`s Sainsbury`s store!
There were some great moments including one lady in a wheelchair who gave about £80 in notes; the dancing customers and the staff who also joined in. I heard that the checkout queues were also moving to the beat of the Ukuleles (remember that scene in the Full Monty!!!) A big thank you also to Colin R for sourcing the collecting buckets and taking all the cash back to Pitmaston school and to those who encouraged the customers: Colin, Paul, Anne, Trev, Pete et al..... Thanks also to Colin B. and Trev for helping out with the leading and to Trev for taking charge of the packing up at the end. The current estimate is that we raised around £600 which is not bad for three hours playing.......a very worthwhile event and also very enjoyable.......we didn`t quite get through all the gig packs but we certainly played a few that we have not done for a while so very good practice! Thanks again. Rob |
5/10/19 Bewdley Festival
Hi All, A big thank you to all who played at Bewdley yesterday, we always have a good gig in the museum and yesterday was no exception. We soon had a crowd stop to listen who joined in and stayed to the finish.
At the Hall, we lined up both sides of the entrance to catch people leaving the Film and people turning up for the next session. We played a selection from 4 songpacks and were congratulated at the end by Allison McCourty, one of the producers of the film who loved what we played and said that they will be doing something next year and asked if we would like to come back and play again. Thanks to Geoff for a cracking bit of bass and to Elaine for drumming up some audience for the first session. Well done you guys, John |
3/10/19 Perdiswell Mature Club
Thanks to today’s merry and fantastic band. A very enjoyable gig for an appreciative audience. We were paid our usual gig fee in addition to the bucket collection... And we’re back for their Christmas bash on 19th December. But you will have to sign up soon as we only room for two more! Colin
2/10/19 St Mary's Church
Many thanks to the excellent band who played at the St Mary's Senior Residents gig today. Everyone was happy, band and audience. Thanks to Mark for playing bass and Rob for harmonica interludes and well done everyone. Allan.
27/9/19 Meadow Court Retirement Village
Hello fellow giggers ......... playing for the Big Macmillan Coffee Morning before an enthusiastic audience who took to the carpet and produced some interesting dance moves.
As soon as the special WUC sound reached the villagers' ears our small audience grew, along with their community singing. Check out Delilah. Our band played their hearts out. We welcomed Pete J to the ranks and his super bass voice compensated brilliantly for a lack of bass instrument. His playing was very good too. Hopefully we shall see more of him at future gigs. Trevor's bass line was due to a sore throat, but he carried on regardless, trouper that he is.
My thanks to one and all. Finally, best wishes to Ann C who had to pull out at the last minute with a nasty headcold. Hope you're soon back strummin'.......... Virginia

27/9/19 Arley House Care Home
Many thanks to the small but lively group who played at Areley House Care Home, Stourport, this afternoon, For some of us, it was the second gig of the day, but we performed with bags of energy and the audience lapped it up. The whole afternoon was made so worthwhile by the vote of thanks from the gentleman resident - himself a former chorister - delivered so graciously at the end. It was a great gig, with lots of singing along from the residents. I am looking forward to going back there again: I’m reliably informed they’ll have us! Trevor
21/9/19 Hop Market Worcester
Hello people, So many thanks to pass on after today’s gig. The first is from me to everyone who turned up and played and sang so well. Next, John H who wasn’t aware of the gig but he’s such a showman he stayed on to play. Next, Colin R and Nick who ‘liberated’ some hops for us to wear on our hats or heads or wherever. Next to Rob, who tuned my uke for me while I sang and played air uke during one number. Next to Geoff who asked me to shout the count-ins. (First time he’s ever asked me to shout at him!) great bass playing. I could go on, you were all fabulous. Bill, chair of the hop market committee thanked me and asked me to pass on his thanks to everyone. We’re booked again for next year. Here’s hoping we get some photos from the many that were taken by our audiences. Elaine

14/9/19 Inkberrow FestivALE
Another cracking performance from our team. I wasn't quite sure how we would go down when we arrived as there didn't seem many people about, but as we were about to play, they suddenly started wandering in and we soon had them singing along and enjoying us. A big thank you to Geoff for playing bass and to Trevor for bringing all the gear (and me). We did very well on the collection too, Trevor tells me we had £68.85 in the buckets plus a Euro and a couple of old coins. If we hang on to the Euro, it will probably be worth several pounds in a few weeks time!!! Finally, WELL DONE to DENNIS, it was his first gig with us and he was understandably a bit nervous, but Trevor looked after him and he played like a well seasoned Pro. Hope to see him signed up for many more in the future. Thanks you all and see you soon John H
12/9/19 Severn Heights Nursing Home, Callow End
A huge thank you to the small but talented group who played at Severn Heights Nursing Home this afternoon to small but very receptive audience. We will be invited back! As well as the £50 for the gig from the home, we also received an impromptu donation of £10 from someone in the audience, so a really good afternoon’s work… with tea and sandwiches to follow! Cheers Trevor
|
8/9/19 Malvern Wells Village Fete
Special thanks to those that turned out today and to Trevor for leading us. No bass player today but I don't think I could have kept up with you on my bass steel pans! Sorry about the failure of the parish council sound system - we were asked to sing a bit louder the photo shows us doing just that. Note the blue sky and the sunshine too - that's a first for the village fete job? Bill
|
Hi Everyone, I echo everything Bill said. Many thanks to you all for your singing and playing! We may have been bass-less, but we did well and, thanks in no small part to the efforts of Kate The Bucket, we added a further £70.51p to the Charity fund! Cheers Trevor

7/9/19 Bromyard Folk Festival
Morning All, Thanks to all who participated in Bromyard this year:
thanks again, Let's do it again next year. Cheers Tom |
31/8/19 Peopleton Show
|
"We had another great day for the show this year, made all the better by the fantastic Uke Band who turned out to play as part of the packed live music programme. From where I stood it sounded terrific and you all played extremely well indeed! Special thanks to all of you for indulging my request to play `Message to you Rudy` in honour of my new grandson......see the video! Thanks also to Trev for doing the A3 sheets......you never know we might use it again some time!! We also made good job of `Make me Smile` and Geoff`s introductory Bass Line was spot on so thanks Geoff......you`ve clearly been practising! Finally, another thank to Trev who took over the mike for the last few numbers because I had to go and get ready for the next set with the Shadows tribute Band! A great afternoon and we collected over £33 in the buckets plus a gig fee of £50!!! Rob

25/8/19 Plum Festival, Pershore
Thanks to everyone who played with such gusto in the Pershore bandstand this morning, and especially to Trevor who I called only 10 minutes before we were due on, to make up the numbers. I underestimated the size of the bandstand, and we will have more players if we are asked back next year. We had an enthusiastic audience, some of whom were apparently singing along, from way back across the park. The weather certainly helped - a stark contrast to last year, when it rained all day. Cheers, Phil.

24/8/19 Sunshine Festival, Upton On Severn
Many thanks to the band who played at the Sunshine Festival today....It really lived up to its name! We were given a decent stage and the stage staff (sound, lighting etc.) were really helpful. I thanked them for this. The gig went well. We had an enthusiastic audience and lots of applause. Several dogs in the audience also showed their appreciation by barking from time to time (though not actually in time). We also competed successfully with some very heavy bass beat coming from the adjacent marquis! We had some very nice compliments from members of the audience. Two little girls took our charity buckets round the audience and we raised £87.63. Thanks to Geoff for playing bass, well done everyone and enjoy the sunshine. Allan.

13/8/19 Vintage Tea Party, Bromyard
Hi all Vintage Tea ‘Partyers’!! Wow! Was that a great gig or what!!!
Thank you ALL for really pulling out all the stops and playing a great gig. It was F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S.
We had such terrific comments afterwards and I don’t think we’ve ever had so many dancing- from the second number too!! I think we’re going to be asked back again next year (maybe in a bigger venue!!) So sorry it got so hot on stage - Elaine did try to keep the doors open but had complaints that there was a cold draft!! Thanks Geoff for getting a Bass sorted and thank you Sue for coming along literally at the last minute! Thanks again EVERYONE- we sang 24songs in the end!! Brilliant! Cheers Lyn

10/8/19 Worcester Beer Festival
Thanks to all who played at WBF today - yesterday in fact since it's tomorrow now. Well received by the audience and the music MD Brian Willcox and the bloke from Atlas radio, whoever he is or was. I'm told the sound was pretty OK since we only had 3 mics on stage. Good solid playing and singing from the players.just as it should be. Very enjoyable, Tom
10/8/19 Salwarpe Village Fete
Hi all, immense thanks to the combined band from WUC and Droitwich UC who turned out to play at an extremely windy Salwarpe Fete today. Unfortunately Geoff had some broken electrics in his bass but despite this, we sang, played and kept together well. Geoff was free to exercise his skills as cameraman so I'm hoping for some good pics. Fortunately, we were playing to a decent audience who were downwind of us, so I think we were very audible, despite the lack of amplification. Thanks again everyone and well done. John D, thanks for organising the DUCCY contingent and please forward our thanks to them. Allan
4/8/19 Waterside Residents Association, Droitwich
Hi to all the folk who helped this gig go with swing. Super line-up with great playing and singing..... nice harmonies from the ladies. Alan C was the lonely soul inviting everyone to "Come on over to my Place". Trevor gave a spirited rendition of "I wanna be like You" but stopped short of donning his Orangutan outfit ! John covered the second half leadership wise,. many thanks for that. £149.60 was raised by bucket and cheque. Didn't we do well? Virginia
3/8/19 Plum Alley, Pershore
Hi All, Thanks to everyone who played today and helped make, what I think was a successful gig. Kate collected £53.42 in the bucket for Parsons, sorry I mean Parkinson’s UK. (My slip of the tongue today). Also thanks to the kind person, whoever it was for bringing Kate over from Worcester. Cheers, Phil.

30/7/19 Double Birthday Party - Court House
Hi all, A huge vote of thanks to the Wuccies who braved the rain to play at Court House today, for what turned out to be a game of two halves, Two of the residents, Sujon and Bridget, were celebrating birthdays, and there was supposed to be a joint party in the garden, with music provided by us for an hour. Not surprisingly, that idea was knocked on the head, and we did half our set (8 songs) in one building before braving the weather and dashing across the deserted garden to perform the second half of the set (another 8 songs) in a different building, Our Number One fan there, Sue, had obviously had the foresight to fit wet-weather tyres to her wheelchair (are you listening, Lewis Hamilton?) and she was able to avoid aquaplaning in the chicane round the fountain, so she joined us for the second half as well.
I thought we performed very well, and there was a lot of singing along from the audience, We got lots of positive comments from the audience at the end. One highlight was when birthday boy, Sujon, sang along with most of the words of Catch The Wind, so we gave him a songsheet to follow and sang the song again at the end of the set! Cheers Trevor

14/7/19 Dodford Childrens Holiday Farm, Bromsgrove
Hi Everyone, Thank you to Sunday’s band who played at Dodford Children’s Holiday Farm.
A lovely location and the Dodford Inn whose field we parked in also looked well worth a visit. Back at the Holiday Farm we went down well with the humans and the animals didn’t seem to mind our playing and singing too much. I was impressed with the place and the work they do and I have attached their flyer. Colin |
11/7/19 Octagon Centre, Malvern
We made our debut at the Octagon on Thursday. ‘The Octagon’ sounds a bit like ‘the Roundhouse’ or ‘the O2’ - much more impressive than Octagon Community Centre. A number of us had a very nice buffet lunch before a dozen of us played and sang our hearts out. The audience enjoyed themselves, dancing and singing along.
After the gig I had half a dozen people looking forward to us playing at the Octagon again. Another step in WUC’s inexorable rise to world domination. There was one major downside - they want us to play ‘Winders’ next time and ‘Leaning on a Lamppost’ was also mentioned. Aaaaaarrrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhh, Colin |
10/7/19 Sky Lounge, Worcester
A big thank you to all who sang and played at the Sky gig tonight. A very successful evening. The audience really enjoyed themselves and were up dancing on some songs, singing and waving arms on others, and wanting an encore at the end. Two ladies took cards as they want to book us in the future, the organiser was delighted and there was lots of feedback from the audience saying how much they had enjoyed our performance. A special thank you to Mark for his excellent bass playing, to Trevor for a great Scat performance and for producing the mini Songpacks and to John for his solo on Come on over to my place and for bringing all the equipment, amp, mikes, stands and Songpacks. I couldn’t have done that myself. Thank you. And thanks to all who helped with the stands and Songpacks tonight too. All the best, Eirlys

6/7/19 Morgan Cars 110th Anniversary, Stoke Lacey, Bromyard / Band In The (Cripplegate) Park
Hi All, Well, what a cracking weekend. We had a great day yesterday at the Morgan 110th anniversary. The weather was overcast but the rain held off until we had finished and packed up and the audience stayed and enjoyed our performance to the end. We had concerns that there were so many of us that we would struggle to keep together but we played as one, a superb performance by everyone. A big thank you to Rob for his harmonica playing and to Geoff for the bass. We had the buckets out and collected an excellent £105.93 plus a couple of 2 shilling coins that haven't seen the light of day for a few years and are no longer legal currency and a few Euros. Today, the sun came out and we had a fantastic afternoon at Cripplegate Park. Our audience began assembling even before we had the gazebo up and by the time we were ready to play, we had a sizeable crowd. Right from the start we had them singing along and tapping their feet. Elaine brought some tambourines and shakers which were handed out. Thanks Elaine.
Once again, the band played like demons and pleased the crowd with every song, what a performance. We were joined by Bill's young prodigy William who played extremely well considering he practiced song packs 3 and 4 (I told Bill we would be playing them) and we ended up playing packs 5 and 1. Well done William great playing. Geoff brought his latest acquisition, his Eko bass guitar. He allowed me to play it in the second half which was wonderful, thank you Geoff you're a star.
Finally, we had our lovely people from Parkinson's taking the buckets around and chatting to the audience and telling them how much their contributions make a difference. They collected a fantastic £107.22 today making a total of £213.15 this weekend and if you add the fees in we have made a whopping £438.15. Not bad for a weekend's work.
Give yourselves a massive pat on the back, a masterclass in performance, you've earned every penny. See you tomorrow, John

Customer feedback:
Dear John,
The band was excellent! So much appreciated by the audience over the whole site. I calculated at one stage you had several hundred people tapping their feet to the rhythm of your music across the site. You almost stopped the event!!!
There are calls to invite you back for a different occasion in the future because you were so good and so friendly. Indeed I believe you have one booking already.
Thank you for filling our event with such musicality, warmth and aplomb.
Thank you so much, Best wishes, John.

4/7/19 St Andrew's Church, Malvern
This gig turned out to be a bit of a late night marathon! After being told they only wanted us for half an hour (at 8.30 p.m.) followed by "Strawberries" then another 15 minutes or so we played for nearly an hour before being offered biscuits and cake......... and after the inevitable "raffle" played another few songs before being let go at nearly 10.00 p.m!! So thank you to the stalwarts who demonstrated their stamina and commitment on such a warm evening. We played very well and they clapped and sang along with most of what we did so I think we more than earned our fee. We got our own back by playing the George Formby "Biscuits" song at the end. Well done everyone! Rob
4/7/19 St Joseph's Church, Malvern
Hi to everyone who played this afternoon at St. Joseph's. Thank you all sooo much for playing so well this afternoon. It was a good gig and we had some lovely comments. It was a very tight performance. They would also like us back next year!! 'Can't be bad!! We also had some cash in the buckets along with £50 gig fee, so a good result all round. See some of you on Saturday at Stoke Lacey. Have a good weekend. Cheers, Lyn
29/6/19 RSPCA Novelty Dog Show, The Holdings
Hi Everyone, Well you might have thought that the Wuccies were going to the dogs today but you would have been barking up the wrong tree. We sounded great at the RSPCA Novelty Dog Show. Luckily our audience agreed and there were enthusiastic dancers some of whom were human. The highlight for me was ‘Walking the dog’ when one of our canine friends joined in with impeccably pitched and timed barks. I’m not clear whether the dog was a music lover or just wanted a walk. We had loud calls for an encore but would have been in conflict with dogs being paraded in the ring so I had to press the PAWS button and anyway we were all dog tired. Thanks from me and Diane H to everyone who played and sang today. Special thanks also to our two ‘first timers’ and to John for the excellent sound from his bass. No doubt due in part to his amp’s woofer? Colin
A lovely message and some great photos from Ashley Mayes - Hi there. Thank you for the performance this lunchtime at the RSPCA. Really enjoyed it! My mother Sim Mayes took part - it was her first time performing today. I also took some photos, which can be viewed here: https://ashleymayes.pixieset.com/worcesterukuleleclub-rscpadogshow2019/
29/6/19 Pitmaston Primary School Fete
Many thanks to the "hot" band that played at Pitmaston today. A tricky little gig as a lot of the audience were walking by to get to attractions elsewhere. Can you believe it.....what's more attractive than a group of WUCCIES? Never mind, we sang and played well. I hope that the new giggers enjoyed the experience....thanks for playing. We raised £25 and 4 pence in the buckets. Not a lot, you may say but (for the mathematicians among you) infinitely more than what we would have raised if we hadn't played at all! See you soon.....yes and we're all going to the dogs tomorrow!. Allan.

29/6/19 Arley House Care Home
Thanks to the giggers who played Arely House today. A good tight performance (and we hadn't touched a drop ocifer!). The residents enjoyed the performance and sang along when they could. Thanks as ever to John for his support from the bass and thanks again to the band. Allan.
28/6/19 Cherry Orchard Festival 2019
When confronted with an empty stage, lovely warm sunshine, an adoring crowd (well there must have been at least 20!!) what does a merry band of Wuccies do???? PLAY THEIR HEARTS OUT OF COURSE!!!!! What initially looked like a rather daunting prospect of an open air stage with no cover, a keenish wind that threatened to blow all our stands over and no multi-directional mics to pick us up, we battled through extremely well and produced a great sound that pleased the rather limited audience who clapped and cheered every song we played. What a great band you were and many thanks to Trevor for his accompaniment on `Wanna be like you` (Keep taking the throat pastilles Trev!), the Brass section for their powerful interludes where it really mattered, John kept us together well with a good pounding bass line and special thanks to Allan for keeping his foot firmly on the music stand throughout to stop it being blown away with the wind!! We had some really nice comments afterwards from the organisers who want us to come back again in the future so tally ho!! And......to cap it all we raised a further £23.43 in the buckets on top of our fee of £50 making a total of £73.43!!! A great outing and many thanks to all of you who played so well under challenging conditions!! Rob
26/6/19 Malvern Sight Concern, Christ Church Hall, Malvern
Many thanks to the merry band of 14 Wuccies who certainly "got it" this afternoon (in joke!!) A great little venue with good acoustics and an appreciative audience made the afternoon a real pleasure. The tea and cake was very welcome and surprise surprise........on top of our gig fee of £50 we also received further donations towards our nominated charity of £85.66 making a great total of £135.66!! Well done everyone and thanks to John for his usual fantastic bass, Paul for his ukulele anecdote and the lively bunch you all were for keeping the crowd entertained! Rob
22/6/19 Outdoor concert at the Girl Guides Blackmore campsite, Hanley Swan
Many thanks to the Wuccie-Giggers who travelled out to Hanley Swan this evening to take part in the fund-raising concert for the Girl Guides. We sang well and carried many amongst the crowd with us. It was perhaps a little difficult establishing how loud and audible we were, as we were standing the wrong side of the speakers, but I could see people all around the site singing along to the songs, so they must have been able to hear us! Well done, everyone! Trevor
21/6/19 Young At Heart gig in St Paul’s Church
A huge vote of thanks to everyone who played at the Young At Heart gig in St Paul’s Church this afternoon. The gig was as enjoyable as all the others we have had there, and the audience responded brilliantly, joining us in many of the songs. My apologies for forgetting the four bars of C a the the start of Teddy Bear: I sometimes wonder how I ever passed my 11+! I am not sure of what went wrong with the start of Green Door, either. Some of us went through it earlier than others! Still, it was all part of the general fun and entertainment. Thanks again to all who took part. Trevor

15/6/19 60th Wedding Anniversary
A huge ‘Thank You’ and ‘Well Done’ to everyone who went to play, sing, drink tea and eat cake this afternoon at the celebration of the 60th wedding of Neil and Eileen. We sounded good, and the guests responded well, especially during our second set. We got some great feedback at the end, and one of the guests even contributed a further £20 to the £100 Neil had already donated to our charity. A special thank you to Pete and Maggie for joining us at the last minute (and to the rain gods for causing their cricket match to be called off); to Geoff for a great bass line; to the singing vicar (last seen at 3 Counties a couple of years ago) for taking up the offer of ukularaoke and singing a couple of songs with us; to Neil and Eileen and their guests for making us so welcome; and finally to every single Wuccie who performed so well. The only down-side was that I left my bag and ukulele there, so I will have to brave the single-track lanes again to collect them! Doh! Trevor
12/6/19 Park Heath Social Club
Hi all, A great big thank you to all who performed so well at Park Heath Social Club this afternoon. The audience, small as it was, responded magnificently, singing along with many of the songs and shaking anything that rattled! Many thanks to Mark for giving us depth with his bass playing and to Colin who stepped in to fill a vacancy right at the last minute. Mostly, though, thanks to you all for making the event so joyful… and for not batting an eyelid at the two unexpected and unrehearsed songs sprung on you at the end. Cheers, Trevor
10/6/19 Bonterre Open Day
A massive thank you to our band of merry lads and lassies for playing today at Bonterre!
Just as we were about to play outside in the sunshine the heavens opened! However, inside the marquee with the cake serving stall we stayed dry and also had a small; but appreciative gathering of listeners. The cake lady jigged throughout and thought we were wonderful!! Also one of the young girls who has extreme anxiety and very nervous of people in general came in and listened to us for half an hour, her mum was close to tears at seeing her achieve this, what a wonderful accolade for us! Thanks again fellow Wuccies, Love Rosemary |
8/6/19 Summer Party at Avoncroft
Hi Guys, A huge thank you to all who played at Helen's summer party last night, despite a steady start, the crowd got into the spirit of it and we got them up dancing in the second half. I must say, I enjoyed my hot dog and chips in the break. Thanks to Geoff for the bass, hope your knees aren't too bruised after stumbling outside, that's just the sort of thing I do so I'm glad you got there first. Also, a big thank you to Trevor for sorting the song sheets for the special requests. He printed out Stand By Me which sounded really good for a relatively unrehearsed song, (just need to nail the end) and rushed about getting song sheets from his car for Winders and digging out When I'm 64. To cap it all, Trevor counted the collection and we had an amazing £77.56 which included a £20, £10 and 2 £5 notes. Some people must have really liked us. As we were packing up, we had lots of people come and say how much they enjoyed us so well done to you all, John
2/6/19 Band In The (Cripplegate) Park
A BIG thank you to all who played at Cripplegate this afternoon. I wasn't sure at first that we were going to play at all, but Pat was determined that we should, despite the Council doing their best to cancel it. In the end, we were lucky with the weather, it stopped raining just before we started and held off 'till the last song. We attracted a small but appreciative audience who stayed to the bitter end and joined in with almost every song. One little girl came up and said that she thought we sang brilliantly and was playing Air Uke on many of the songs. Elaine took her uke over and gave it to her to play, which made her afternoon. The band played with a huge amount of enthusiasm, a sign maybe that we didn't have too many gigs in May. With tea and cakes from Pat and her lovely ladies in the break and our friends from Parkinson's rattling the buckets, a great afternoon. Thanks very much to Geoff for playing the bass, to Helen and Allan for dragging the music and stands there and to Trevor for dragging them back to the car. Well done to you all, see you soon, John

25/05/19 Elgar and the Beatles, The Firs - Elgar's Birthplace
Elaine, who led yesterday's gig (Elgar & The Beatles!) at The Firs, was very pleased with the Wuccies.....
"Wow...........I hoped it would go well and indeed it did! Thank you so much to everyone.
It was a long way from our usual performance but just shows that we are versatile. We have opened up a new audience. I’m sure there were people there who would never dream of listening to a ukulele band. I hope ‘they will remember, things we played today’
Richard was very pleased and, as he said, all without a rehearsal. I think we should add My Old Man’s a Dustman or Does your Chewing Gum Lose it’s Flavour to our repertoire as a tribute to him.
Stuart, the man in charge of the Firs said we must come again!
The collection buckets had £84.95 in them.
Thanks again to everyone."
Bev also had a comment to make.......
"Thanks for organising - very interesting and different.
In the car park I was stopped by a couple who said they were very impressed by our professionalism, well rehearsed and very entertaining and how far around did we play. So I said we went quite a long way – Bromyard, Hereford, Malvern, Pershore. Oh shame they said, we are visiting from Eastbourne and came to see the Birthplace!
Anyone for a coach trip????"

25/05/19 Mello Festival, Hanley Castle
Thanks to the band who played at Mello today. The contempo stage turned out to be a patch of lawn outside the beer tent, bringing a new meaning to the term "being put out to grass". (Just as well I bought the PA!). Despite the outdoor venue we sang and played well and kept a small but appreciative audience engaged and entertained. Thanks to Geoff for bass and thanks to Virginia for taking the Parkinson's buckets. Thanks again, Allan.
19/05/19 Hanley Swan - Tea Party for Help The Aged... for the 7th year in a row!
To the band - thanks all for performing / leading / bass-playing today - attached a pic of us in action, having cleared away the posh tea in front of us! - and thanks for letting me play - I hadn't signed up but were a couple short on the day - fortunately I had my ukulele in the car! Bill
Jean/Lorry (and all eventually) - I found an April 2012 clip of us doing the same event, and yes, you're in there Lorry - and we wore smart bow-ties in those days! |

05/05/19 Le Vesinet gig at Besford Court
To the band who played at the Le Vesinet gig at Besford Court today, a massive thank you. This was a great performance much appreciated by the French visitors and the English hosts. I'm not sure that I've ever heard so many compliments after a gig. Audience participation was wholehearted and there was 100% arm waving during Hi Ho Silver lining. Special thanks to Trev for being the translation guru and for a solo in "C'etait les temps des Fleurs", to Dave S for his solo in the same song, to John for his Bassmanship and fills and to everyone who sang and played so well in English and in French. We received a cheque for the performance but the audience also put £103.54 + 15 Euros in notes into the Parkinson's Charity buckets. Well done everyone. Allan.
23/04/19 Band In The Park
Hi All,
There was a great turnout for yesterday's gig, a big thank you to Terry and his wife Sue for arranging our place in the proceedings. We had a very energetic buildup to our session with a lady giving a Zumba class. Some of the more reckless of our members joined in, well done you guys. Luckily, I had to talk to the sound guys about overhead mics and DI boxes and things so I couldn't partake myself.
The sun came out and we played a spirited set to a good audience that mostly stayed for the whole performance and sang along and clapped in all the right places. We also sang Happy Birthday to Steve Jaques but he was keeping pretty tight lipped about his age Our 2 resident ladies rattled the buckets for us and collected a grand total of £46.83, well done to them. All in all a great afternoon and a big thanks to all who played. Cheers John
Finally, here are a couple of photos and a note of thanks from Sally sent to Colin:
Hello Colin,
On behalf of the Friends of Gheluvelt Park please pass on our thanks to the Ukulele Club for putting on such a great show today (as they always do).
Many thanks,
Sally

20/04/19 Court House St George's Day Gig
Thanks to the excellent band who played at Court House (Midsummer House) today. We played to an appreciative and good sized audience. The only mistake was from me (again), this time not realising it actually was St George's day itself, rather than a day close to it.......this despite all the red crosses festooning the room! Never mind...the singing and playing were top class. Thanks to Geoff for the bass bits and testing the batteries to destruction, to Colin for the flags and the ladies for some nice harmonies. Another good gig for the Court House house band! Allan.
20/04/19 Royal British Legion, Cradley
Thanks to all who played to a small but generally appreciative audience at Cradley last night. We sang and played well and thanks to Geoff who gave John H a rest from playing bass. Proceedings were enlivened when the leader (me) started to sing "Runaround Sue" when almost everyone else was expecting to play "Memories are made of this" which provoked the following :
"Here's my story, sad but true, about a song that I once knew. I knew the words and I knew the tune but then I sang it much to soon.......woah!"...
...a Morecambe and Wise moment except that it was the entire song rather than just the notes in the wrong order! In the words of Ian Dury, the rest was "very good indeed". Allan.

13/04/19 Worcester Crowngate
The Mayor of Worcester, Councillor Jabba Riaz, tried his hand at ukulele when he joined a group of over 30 WUCCIES in the city’s CrownGate shopping centre as they raised more than £1,000 for Worcester and District branch of Parkinson’s UK.
The group played from 11am to 3pm today, to entertain shoppers, and raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease and funds for the work done by the local branch. WUC has now raised more than £4,500 for Worcester and District branch of Parkinson’s UK since last November, when members began supporting it as their charity for 12 months. Coun Riaz joined the strummers at midday and, donning hat and ukulele, joined in with Johnny Be Good – which he had especially asked the group to do. The strummers, and the Mayor were boosted by a welcome cup of coffee given by Bill’s Restaurant nearby and went on to perform several other numbers, much to the appreciation and applause by an audience, which had gathered in the shopping centre to hear the music and see Coun Riaz join in the fun with ukulele and a few dance moves. Both the Worcester Ukulele Club and the Parkinson’s UK branch would like to thank everyone who kindly donated money on Saturday, CrownGate staff for their help and Bill’s Restaurant for the welcome cup of coffee. |
11/04/19 Primrose Spring Concert, Bromsgrove
A band played in Bromsgrove on Thursday evening at the fund raising concert for the Primrose Hospice which is a charity in North Worcestershire that supports patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families by providing them with care and support. The concert featured the Primrose Choir (performing and supporting the hospice since 2000), Tardebigge First School and Worcester Ukulele Club. We had a large band of 25 and sounded excellent. There was lots of audience participation from a full hall and the Primrose Choir sang along with us. We’ve had a big thank you from the Primrose Choir for our part in the concert which raised over £2,000 for the hospice. We have already been asked to play at the 2020 concert.
It’s amazing that the club has been able to hold one major fund-raising event in Worcester Crowngate for Worcester and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK (well done Bev) and play a major part in another fund raising concert in Bromsgrove in aid of the Primrose Hospice within the same week. A big well done to anyone who played at either or both events.

11/04/19 BBC Hereford and Worcester
Fun time as a few Wuccies went on BBC Hereford and Worcester radio’s Evening Show with presenter Kate Justice to play a couple of songs and publicise the club’s BIG GIG in CrownGate on Saturday, April 13, to raise money for Worcester and District Branch of Parkinson’s UK.
More than 30 players from Worcester Ukulele Club have signed up to play in Bell Square (at the back of Boots) in the city centre from 11am to 3pm, taking turns to ensure there is continuous music throughout the four hours to entertain shoppers, raise awareness of Parkinson’s and, hopefully, collect lots of cash towards the work of the local branch of Parkinson’s UK – the club’s charity for this year. So, a big thank you to Kate for an enjoyable chat and if anyone is in CrownGate on Saturday, Worcester Ukulele Club would love to see you so please stop, say hello, have a sing-a-long or even a dance. |
06/04/19 Bewdley Museum, Greener Living Show
Hi All, Well done today, we played a couple of great sessions. In the first session, we maintained a good crowd and even managed to persuade John, the Jehovah's Witness guy next to us, to play along although he had to give up in the end as his fingers were burning. He said it was because he hadn't played for a long while. The second session was in the gardens and we did feel a bit lost in such a large space but we soon settled down and the crowd stayed with us and clapped enthusiastically after each song. I had a bit of a dilemma as the power didn't work and I ran out of battery half way through. Note to self, always carry a spare, you never know when you might need it. At the end of the session, several people came over and said how much they enjoyed it so that was good to hear. Amy our host was very please and vowed to book us again in the future.
While we were playing outside on the street, I was approached by a lady from the nearby florists who is on the Bewdley Festival Society Committee and asked us if we would be available to play on their All American Day on October 5th, I have put it on Muzodo as a provisional booking but it sounds like a great day. I will find out more about it as time goes on and let you all know. Another great gig, thanks to all who played, John |
30/03/19 The Eagle Vaults, Worcester Pub Beer Festival
Hi All, Just a few words to say thanks very much to the crew that played on Saturday at Eagle Vaults. It was a pub that I had never been in before and viewed as very much a locals' pub but we were greeted with enthusiasm and went down a storm. You all played with such energy, it would have been impossible not to enjoy it. We had a great rapport with some customers who came from the Ketch caravan park. It turns out that they had ukuleles but had never got around to learning them. They said that they will be here for much longer in the summer and so will come and join us at the club. All in all, a super afternoon, some great beer and the landlord was very happy that we kept the pub full. Both he and his wife said they wanted us back so watch out for another gig there on Muzodo. Well done everyone, see you soon, John

27/03/19 Make Time Friendship Group, Worcester
A great little gig today, everyone was up for it from the start and the room had good acoustics which makes all the difference. We even had the Mayor boogying along to some of our songs together with several of the audience. Thanks to Rob for co-hosting and playing harmonica, always makes a difference. Well done everyone else for playing so well, one guy asked me if we had got backing tapes, it sounded so good. See you Saturday, John
Dear Colin,
Well, what a lovely band you have, we all had a really great day with Worcester Ukulele Band. The music fantastic - if you were a music hater you would have to tap your feet to the sound and beat of the music. Really enjoyable entertainment.
The Mayor was up dancing and some of my members who are normally too shy to interact at group meetings were up and dancing as well.
We thank you, and your band members for making our celebration day one to remember and for bringing joy and happiness to Make Time Friendship group's celebration day.
Many Thanks Jenny and behalf of the above group.

Dear Bill,
I know that Matthew has been in touch but I want to add my thanks to his. The Ukulele band were terrific and really made the evening the success it was. Lots of people have said, written and emailed how much they enjoyed the evening and I feel a major part of that is due to your music so please pass my appreciation on. Many thanks Barbara |
26/03/19 Worcester Long Term Stroke Group, St Peter's Baptist Church
Many thanks to all who played at the Long Term Stroke Survivors Gig at St. Peter`s Baptist Church yesterday. I thought we played well and sang with gusto. The songs in the 'Irish Interlude' seemed to go down well. I think it was to our advantage having Trevor introduce them, as he`s not Irish, so it made the Irish element sound genuine! (....if you get what I mean????).
Many thanks to Geoff who supported us well with his Bass and to co-leader Jean for sorting out the songs and the order etc...
We were well `refreshed` with coffee, tea and biscuits, so we survived to play another gig. A very enjoyable interlude with an appreciative audience who joined in and sang along. Rob & Jean

23/03/19 Lyttleton Well Project Volunteers Social Evening
Hi All, Thanks to all those that played at Lyttleton Well on Saturday, everyone enjoyed it and many were singing along to the songs. We even had a couple of dancers at times. Bill received a letter today from their Business Manager Matthew Jordan which read as follows:
Dear Bill,
Just a short note to thank you and The Worcester Ukulele Club for providing the entertainment at our volunteers' party on Saturday evening. Many of our volunteers have said how much they enjoyed the music and went home feeling really uplifted.
Well done to you all, it sounded great. John

02/03/19 Rotary Club Pudding Evening - Callow End Village Hall
Thanks to those that performed last evening - and to Trevor for the "pudding parading" words he wrote for Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah! I thought the evening went off very well.....and our host says this morning.....
"Good morning Bill, I would be most grateful if you would pass on our sincere appreciation to all your members (and yourself of course) who took the trouble to come to our event last night and entertain so well and for so long. This was the first time we have run a “Pudding Night” and so we were not perhaps as organised as we should have been, but we hope that you and all your colleagues did not mind that too much and you all enjoyed yourselves too.
We think your band contributed hugely to the night and we hope you will be up for helping us out again at some point in the future. I hope our small donation and the pudding samples were adequate reward! I don’t know if you are still supporting Headway, but we have also made donations to that charity.
With huge thanks
Terry
The Rotary Club of Worcester"
...the only thing we left behind, apart from a few puddings that we couldn't manage, was a pullover - thought to belong to Alan - which John H is taking to the club on Monday, Thanks again, Bill

20/02/19 Pershore Volunteers Lunch Club
Hi Phil, A huge thanks again for you and your group taking the time to come and put on such a lovely performance at our lunchclub on Wednesday. It was very much enjoyed, very much appreciated, and very much the theme of the conversation over the meal! It was so good to see such an enthusiastic happy group and it created such a positive atmosphere. I hope you will come back again! Ruth

We had a great little gig today down in Pershore at the Volunteers Lunch Club. The audience were up for it and rearing to go from the off (no sign of horse flu here). The band played with loads of vigour and Mark kept us all together with some cracking bass. We had lots of hand clapping and joining in and lots of praise as we left from happy diners. One of the organisers said at the end how much she would like to play so we might have recruited another member. We put our buckets out and were rewarded with a collection of £26.68. So well done everybody, excellent playing and singing, most enjoyable and a big thank you to Phil for organising it.

27/01/19 Birthday Party, Court House
Many thanks to all who played to an appreciative audience at Court House yesterday. This was the seventh time we've played there within a year.......think that some of the residents will be getting to know the gig packs by now! Thanks again to Mark for playing bass. We'll be looking forward to the next Court House birthday party! Allan.
27/01/19 Birthday Party, The Lawns Kempsey
Thanks to the excellent band who played at the Lawns, Kempsey yesterday. An unusual gig where we initially played through an open door to the "Birthday Lady" who was bed bound. We were then plied with tea and biscuits and played to a small but appreciative audience in the sitting room. A toy cat on the lap of one audience member beat time with its paws! After the gig, an appreciative member of the audience gave us an additional £20 on top of the gig fee. Throughout, the band sang and played well. Professional, I thought. Thanks to Mark for playing bass....second time in the weekend. Allan.
26/01/19 Maureen's 80th Birthday Party, St Peter's Baptist Church
Many thanks to the lively band who played at Maureen's 80th birthday party today. We sang and played with spirit, the harmonies were.....harmonious and we finished with a fineley played kazoo duet in Urban Spaceman (thanks Pete and Laura). Thanks to Mark for the supportive bass.
Although we played for longer than advertised, the audience paid us the compliment of staying right to the end and the organiser said some very nice things about our performance, so well done everyone. Allan.
