17/11/23 Children In Need For The 9th Year!
WUC's ninth year of supporting Children In Need, was another very successful day of fundraising. Here's a message sent to the local paper:
Worcester Ukulele Club and Pudsey Bear entertained shoppers and raised a magnificent £1,552 for Children in Need in a four-hour Uke-athon in the city centre. The day was full of fun and laughter and many, many songs were played with passers-by singing along and dancing with Pudsey Bear. On Friday, the morning of Children in Need Day about 20 players were in CrownGate Shopping Centre and in the afternoon another group of about 20 were in Worcester High Street.
The Mayor Worcester, Councillor Louis Stephen and his wife, the Mayoress, Mrs Katey Stephen, also joined the players as they played for shoppers who gave generously to the charity. The Mayor and Mayoress enjoyed a little ukulele strumming and singing along.
The couple made a special request to the strummers to play George Formby’s 'When I’m Cleaning Windows' as the Mayoress had a treasured autograph of George Formby left to her by her great grandfather. The Mayoress said: “My great aunt worked front of house in the Bolton theatre at this time and collected autographs of the music hall acts”.
Worcester Ukulele Club would like to thank the shoppers for their incredible generosity and the Mayor and Mayoress of Worcester for their support. As the marathon ukulele session came to a close the collection buckets were rattling with the kind donations. It took four hours to count the money kindly donated and Trevor Taylor, leader of the ukulele players for the event, said he was absolutely delighted with the amount raised and “many thanks to the great people of Worcester.”

Now a message from Trevor, who was leading:
"A whole heap of thanks to everyone who helped in so many ways to make the day so enjoyable. The two sessions seemed to fly past, with lots of playing, lots of singing, lots of laughing... and, most importantly, lots of money in the bucket. I've finished the Big Countathon, and I am delighted to announce that, subject to confirmation when it gets paid in to the bank, we collected the astounding sum of £1,552.73 - incredibly - there were only 3 foreign coins!"
Well done, again, to us... and a massive thank you to the people of Worcester who contributed so generously". Trevor

...and finally, a message from Rosemary (our evergreen CIN lead):
Hi All, Wow, wow, wow, what a great day we had outside Huntingdon Hall and on the High Street! I was not sure how it would work out with the different venues and different format; but in terms of fun, atmosphere, public enjoyment, it was fantastic!! Thank you sooooo much every one of you for your enthusiasm and support for CIN. Special thanks to the Pudsey Bears who behaved impeccably, a couple of dubious moments; but that is allowed! Thanks to all the bucket shakers, to Anne for her organisation of photographs and everything, to Geoff and Robin for pictures, to Bev for all the media organisation, to John for the venue bookings and last; but by no means least Trev for leading us all day with such unwavering enthusiasm and skill! I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did, I know the people of Worcester did and the young lady who danced with such energy, having such a great time is in fact a girl I know from Maggs whose life is unbelievably hard, so it was lovely to see her having a bit of fun! Hope I haven’t left anyone out, always a worry!! Next year will be a decade of CIN gigs! Love Rosemary

05/11/23 Alfrick & Lulsely Show Update
The Wuccies have some exciting news about a gig performed back in September. On September 2nd, about 20 members entertained the crowds and enjoyed the some fun at the Alfrick & Lulsley Show. We played for no fee but were asked to apply to the show organisers for a grant. We must have done very well because we've just received the fantastic amount of £300 for our charity, Acorns Children's Hospice. Well done to everyone who played that day!
